You could get another chain lock and hack in one of the more narrow elements. Not the right way I assume but works.

Can the chain be 2 links shorter, or does it have to be that length? Because you need to either remove the outer links from both ends which will make it shorter.
Or – to keep it the same length, remove an outer link from one end and ADD an inner link to the other end.

Assuming that you cut the links, and that you don’t have a chain breaker or extra chain around, you might need to get a new chain. If you ride a lot,it might be good to invest in a chain breaker, then you can push out the pins and save the links. Not as high stakes that way.
