Hey everyone,
I recently picked up a yellow MTB frame from the late 1980s. The previous owner said it’s a Panasonic Mountain Cat, but some details don’t quite match — especially the bottle cage mounts and the cable routing along the downtube.

Unfortunately, the paint is quite thick, so I can’t find a clear serial number. There might be a very faint single digit under the bottom bracket, but nothing readable.

Could anyone help identify or narrow down what this frame might be?

That’s an awesome frame. I don’t have much input, but the dt cable guides are cool and the fork crown is also cool.

  2. I mean…? That thing is hot. Maybe it is a Panasonic? Put some lacquer thinner on the BB to see if you can get closer to the serial number.

Can I ask how much you paid?

That crown fork is rad! You can check under the cable guide of the bottom bracket if a serial might be visible there, also be sure to check the rear (and front) dropouts for any branding for more clues, you might have to remove some paint there but that won’t be very visible once the wheels are on. Overall it’s a nicely lugged, probably steel mtb frame. I’m not sure what brands had the rear brake mounted underneath the chainstay but that will also narrow your search. Another solution would be to strip the paint completely and carefully to see what secrets lie underneath that yellow coating.
