  1. Damn … I personally can’t do it in negative C temp … I don’t know why. Kinda sucks that winter is upon us.

  2. Put some very off-road focused gravel tires on last night and I feel like this is the way to go for the next few months.

A 50mm Schwalbe Dirty Dan up front with a 50mm Schwalbe G-One Ultrabite in the rear. I wanted to go for studs but I’ve read that they do best on actual ice and so far, all we got is pretty intense snow that is packed down by now and even then, studs won’t work very well. The tread on Schwalbe Winter tires is then a bit too short to compensate.

For the last two days, I used the G-One Bite which did very well when there was somewhat regular rain on fairly hard dirt roads, but as soon as you ride a couple meters with them in snow, turn into complete slicks, negating any grip.

There is even more snow coming tomorrow, so I’ll check how these do. Friday looks a bit dangerous. Temperatures are slightly warming up during the day and there’s rain but it will drop to below freezing later that day and that’s where the ice will come. 😨
