This 1987 Trek 400 Elance is available near me for $125. I’m not sure if that’s a fair price for it, since I’ve seen a lot of different prices online.
The frame is listed as 52cm and I’m 172cm tall. I think that would mean it’s too small, but does anyone know how easy it would be to extend the stem (or do any other elongating changes) on a bike like this (and if it’s even worth it?)
Thanks

I wouldn’t buy it unless that’s the only bike in your price range. These parts are quite old (40+) and if it needs any repairs, it can get expensive.
Looks like something you find in a goodwill shop for 25 bucks
I’ve got a similar Trek from that era and it’s a pretty nice bike: not too heavy; good clearance for relatively wide tires (or to use fenders); rides great.
Re/ size – it might be a bit on the small side for you, but probably not too far off. It’s got old-school deep-drop handlebars that will have a longer reach than more “modern” bars. Check with the seller that the seat post is freely adjustable & not seized in the frame… seized = no go. For reference I’m 186 cm and my Elance is a 58.
Whether that’s a good price or not will depend a lot on your local market. It’s a little weird that it is being sold without handlebar tape: maybe something you could use to negotiate on price.
