Defeat For Oxford United in our Final Game of 2025 Against Swansea City | Championship Highlights
Oxford United lost 1-0 at home to Swansea City after a first half header from Zan Vipotnik.
Craig Short named the same side which defeated Southampton 2-1 on Boxing Day, which saw Nik Prelec leading the line and goalscorers Stan Mills and Tyler Goodrham in again.
Speaking as a coach myself, their defensive coach, if they have one, needs a close look. The number of soft goals they concede from set pieces and crosses. Last night was another shocker. Short man marks tall man.
What a game at Kassam Stadium! As a Barrow AFC supporter, I’ve got to give credit where it’s due—Oxford United fought hard despite the 1-0 loss to Swansea City. Craig Short stuck with the same lineup that had beaten Southampton, and for the first 10 minutes, United looked decent, pressing Swansea without creating clear chances.
Unfortunately, a well-delivered ball from Josh Tymon found Zan Vipotnik unmarked, and he made no mistake, heading Swansea in front on 14 minutes. From there, it was all about Jamie Cumming making some key saves to keep the scoreline at 1-0. Oxford didn’t roll over, though—Tyler Goodrham, Stan Mills, and Brian De Keersmaecker all tried their luck from range, but Swansea’s defense held firm.
The second half saw United pushing for an equalizer, but the closest they came was when Stan Mills had a great opportunity on 66 minutes. He was in behind but just couldn’t control the ball to get a shot away. That nearly-perfect free kick from De Keersmaecker on 76 minutes had the fans on their feet, but it just skimmed the outside of the netting. Tough luck!
It wasn’t to be for Oxford, but they showed a lot of character, and with Ipswich coming up next, they'll bounce back. Props to Swansea for holding out, but Oxford definitely made them work for it.

Pathetic performance
