I didn’t realise Carlisle was such a gem!

I went to do a Station Hotel Carlisle Review and a walk around the city. But the city blew me away!

The city is packed with history, from its magnificent cathedral and imposing castle to its charming streets overflowing with restaurants, bars, and hidden gems. Yet, Carlisle remains surprisingly underrated. Join me as I explore this fascinating city, starting with a stay at the conveniently located Station Hotel.

This video kicks off with a look at The Station Hotel. Bright, clean, comfortable, and excellent value for money. I’ll give you a full room tour and share my thoughts on the hotel, including a peek at the bar (and the delicious Shiraz I enjoyed!).

Then we explore the city’s historic streets. From the Citadel (Carlisle’s “second” castle) to the iconic Crown and Mitre Hotel, and of course, the stunning Carlisle Cathedral, you’ll be amazed by the historical treasures around every corner. We’ll even explore Carlisle Castle itself, complete with dungeons and a military museum!

Carlisle is a city waiting to be discovered. So, if you’re looking for a UK getaway filled with history, charm, and delicious food and drink, look no further. Hit that play button and join me on this Carlisle adventure!

  1. The Statuon Hotel has had several names during its existence- Cumbrian, Cumbrian Victoria, County, Hallmark, Lakes Court. The nearby hotel that is now The County used to be The Red Lion

  2. The song Loch Lomond was written about 2 Scottish prisoners in Carlisle castle
One was to be executed and the other was to be set free
In Scottish folklore if a Scottish soldier died abroad his spirit would return back to Scotland via the low road
The soldier set free would return via the high road

  3. We visited a few months ago as the local bus goes past our village and onto Carlisle. We saw the castle. Very interesting. We stayed in a b&b on Warwick road. Hell covers that place. And we saw the cathedral. Tbh we left early. I can say ive visited Carlisle and don't ever need to go back. Pass through don't stop 😂

  4. We live in Annan and travel to Carlisle regularly, if we stop overnight we stop at the Station hotel, we get a deal through Wowcher to give us a bottle of wine, night stay, breakfast and a late check out for £69 I think it is. Absolutely brilliant hotel but I do find it a little hot in the rooms but they always have a fan in the room.

  5. I think the reason for the plastic glass in the bathroom, if you dropped it and stood on the broken glass …………not good !

  6. I live in Carlisle, just a few hundred yards away from the Station Hotel. About once a month I book in there, usually room 107 or 207.
It is such a rare pleasure to find a proper bath with separate hot and cold taps and a rubber plug that fits into the plug hole.
Also, if you don't require housekeeping every day, you receive a token for a free drink in the bar for each day it's not required.

  7. My Home City. I love getting other peoples perspectives about where I live. Great Vlog and I glad you had a nice time. Great point you made about having history like York. York has a focus on the Vikings etc, Carlisle should be celebrated more with the history of the Romans and with Hadrians wall on our doorstep.

  8. was there a few day this june and it was boring, and other city and towns are worth more, both in time and money. Station is less then what you see at York, looked more like a home maded advertising

  9. They have special offers, one on at the moment. I've managed to get Bed and Breakfast for under £49, on a Sunday night. Room only would have been under £40. It's my nearest city, a hotel I've looked at for years. So that money I'm very happy.
