Episode 5 of Cycling Cities UK is here, and it’s a big one because I’m in the first capital city of the channel. Cardiff!

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, go back and watch episode 0 ‘prologue’, where I give an explanation of the scoring system and what on earth I’m up to.

  1. Great video! Been watching since Worcester. Other cities that would be good to see would be Bristol, Bath, and Cambridge. I hear these are pretty good for cycling.

  2. Happy New Year Finn and all. 🎉 Looking forward to learning what you make of my home city (Brighton & Hove). I would urge you try to time your review during term time for the Unis (far greater numbers of cyclists) and bear in mind the demographics differ wildly between the east and west of the conurbation.

Hopefully by the time you get here, the Valley Gardens / Pool Valley scheme, smack bang in the centre of everything will be complete, as last time I was there, bus drivers were relying on a very put upon inspector relaying ultra short term diversions (i.e. by their next trip things could have changed again!) in real time. If that sounds bl••dy hectic, it really IS.

The next big project is the Western Esplanade (the flat bit aling the front, from Hove Lawns to Portslade), though I've not so far heard results of the recent public consultation so dunno when things kick off. Ought to be interesting.

  3. Been hoping for a series like this for ages and it’s so well executed! I appreciate the local knowledge section. Please do Bristol 🙂

  4. Hi Im from Cardiff and remember seeing Boris bike stations in skanky areas like Ely and thinking "yeah that'll work".
Not surprisingly, the scheme was scrapped. How sad. A mindless minority spoiling it for every1 else.
    Thnx for the vid.
