https://www.waterwaysireland.org/about-us/projects/grand-canal-greenway cycled along the Grand Canal from Shannon Harbour in the west of Co. Offaly all the way to Hazelhatch in Dublin – as part of a Coast to Coast ride.
The whole canal is 132km or 82 miles long. And it’s great – although some sections; Edenderry to Sallins are still being worked on – or work is planned, but the bulk of the canal has smooth tarmac, some gravel and no traffic.
