Ep. 29 – Cycling 2750km from Belgium to Spain

We leave the busy city on a surprisingly quiet gravel path, quickly learning that the Via Verde has its own definition of “smooth.” Washboard gravel shakes us into milkshake consistency, burning fields paint the landscape black, and shade is mostly a theoretical concept.

A missing light switch sends us into a pitch-black tunnel, where vision becomes optional and trusting the gravel is the only way through. Along the way we’re reminded how relative comfort really is—both on the road and in life.

The day ends with unexpected kindness, better-than-expected camp food, a rare perfect bivouac with water and no trash, and the comforting thought that sometimes progress is simple: keep pedaling, follow the line, and trust the tunnel.
