In this video we’ll have a look on the reasons why Greece and North Macedonia had a very tensionate relationship for almost 30 years.
Because after gaining independence from Yugoslavia, North Macedonia chose to name itself The Republic of Maceonia, Greece blocked it from entering NATO and EU until they both agree to change it’s name to the current one, North Macedonia. Why Greece blocked North Macedonia from joining NATO ?!
All started In 1991, when North Macedonia gained it’s independence from Yugoslavia under the name of Republic of Macedonia.
This name didn’t pleased Greece because it was too similar to the region called Macedonia located in the northern Greece, so they blocked the Republic of Macedonia from entering the EU and NATO just for this simple reason.
In 2019, both countries agreed that the country should be named North Macedonia and in the following year, North Macedonia joined NATO and will most probably join EU in the near future.

North Macedonia will have to convince the majority of Bulgarians that they are not of the same ethnicity, which seems to be very difficult.

Its not this simple reason, there was bloodshed wars for conquering those lands after the ottoman empire, except that, the mix of nationalities in that country is 25% albanian and 50% bulgarian and it was a puppet nation made up from the nazi
