Episode 2: From the Baltic to the Balkans, we traveled across Europe using trains and bicycles. This episode is BRUTAL. As beginners, we chose the hardest way. In country #5, Croatia, we take a train to Split and cycle 220 km from Split to Dubrovnik along the Adriatic coast. What starts as beautiful bikepacking quickly turns into a nightmare: first, I got harassed; second, the road conditions were : narrow roads, busy traffic, buses and trucks flying past, uphill climbs, and almost no space for cyclists.
I said NEVER AGAIN! But is this true..?

  1. Excellent, ladies, thanks for sharing. A very beautiful part of the world. But I think I probably made the right decision – at 60+, cycle touring there is not for me. Probably more mentally than physically!

  2. No one will write you a fine for this type of camping, if you are with a car or camper, but with a bicycle or motorcyclists, they do not fine the problem, the problem is that people light open fires and often cause fires

  3. You two are great example of reversed evolution….thank you for choosing not to cycle to Dubrovnik again, us locals are much safer without you here.

  4. I understand how you feel, I've cycled a lot in that area, and gave up. I put my bike in the car, and take it to a place I want to explore. The main road is mostly the only road, and with all the trucks and busses, it is not worth the risk. But, the area around Dubrovnik, and the adriatic islands, well that is a whole other story.

  5. Pozdrav iz Hrvatske! Vozim motocikl, proveo sam puno vremena u vožnji kroz Dalmaciju. Ako sam se nekome divio, onda su to bili biciklisti, koji su se vozili vrućim asfaltom po vrućim ljetnim danima! Zaslužili ste divljenje, veliki respekt i hladno pivo ❤😂

  6. Very risky driving. The road is not designed for bicycles. You are putting yourself and others at risk. Narrow and fast with buses and trucks. But I wish you luck.

  7. That uphill street from Znjan/Duilovo at around 10:30 is just inhumane. I live nearby and sometimes I ride my bike up that street, I always feel like I will die. Split in general is so hilly and so hot in the summer, I avoid cycling during midday. The magistrala road from Split to south is also very busy and there is no shoulder, but in the last few years there's been a lot of local cyclists on that road from Split to Makarska, so at least the drivers are getting used to encountering bicycles on the road and give more space. The alternative is to take the more rural roads behind the mountains, less busy, but also maybe more crazy drivers, and you don't get the scenic views.

  8. A solution for safer cycling alongside cars and traffic is to install a rear-view mirror, so you know how close the vehicle behind you is. To me, this allows for better judgment and a more relaxed ride, since I know whether there is a car or a truck behind me and how far away it is.”

  9. the two of you have more problems: it's unusual that after driving so much you don't have much power up the hill, it's hard to go straight, you're afraid of heights when you drive along the side of the road that's on a cliff and you move your hand unnecessarily from the steering wheel to signal the cars to slow down, while you start to curve and they don't even slow down

  10. While you're riding like this all day, it wouldn't hurt to do some strength training from time to time, it's easiest on an uphill climb, put a slightly heavier gear ratio and try to hold it for a while, because if you're constantly riding light gears you'll only have great endurance but for small power

  11. Hm….as much as I know that path….it is hard to walk, because of a trafic and road.
On the bicucle…you become prity in danger.
But…ok, we all finding ouer on weys of living🍀🖖🙂
