A Christmas market inside a 500-year-old palace. This is Thurn und Taxis in Regensburg, Germany – and it might just be the most magical market in Europe. Come along as we explore the city the slow travel way before the sun goes down and the palace lights up.
Regensburg is one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities, with Roman walls, hidden graveyards, and art nouveau cafes that most tourists walk right past. We spend the day discovering the sights unseen before finally making our way to the palace gates for an unforgettable evening at one of Europe’s most special Christmas markets.

  1. Wow, the video turned out really well, I am impressed. … but who's that good-looking guide you've got there 😀😃🙂
Thank's again for everything. It was a real fun day.

  2. With your help (seriously, everyone, their Consultations are worth it), we’re attending our first Markets. Early on, we were advised by someone to add a Schuss Amaretto to the “rot” Glühwein. 😜 We’ve had many since; it’s the best! Thanks for inspiring us to come here and experience your Near from Home suggestions, which are all spectacular. And thanks for this video to inspire our next trip! Rob&Erin

  3. Great video as usual guys! We were at the Regensburg Palace market exactly one year ago today! I had my misgivings about the entrance fee, but the market really was next-level! So many little nooks and crannies outside of the (awesome) main courtyard to explore as well. In addition to the Palace market, the main Regensburg market near the cathedral is very good, but my favorite small market was just across the medieval bridge: the Adventsmarkt im Katharinenspital. Very local and charming and just a stones throw from the Danube. I will have to put the Roman wall and Medieval gate on my must see list for next time! Thanks again for the wonderful travel tips.

  4. Visited this market for the second time this year. First visited during my holiday vacation in 2022, now I'm living in the Oberpfalz. It's for sure worth the admission. The flammlachs and làngos were my favorites!

  5. Thurn & Taxis was my favourite market during a trip back in 2019, gorgeous grounds with the most authentic and handmade ornaments. I dream of returning one year – it is just so far away from home in Australia. Thank you showing me the magic again.

  6. I’m just in awe at everything you show us! Adding this my many miles long list for when I return to Germany. Thanks for the awesome video! 🎄

  7. Now that looks like a mighty fine cake….looks like a mighty fine beer too!! What a lovely location for kaffe und kuchen!! That’s a cool wall, imagine just stumbling across that but yeah the Romans knew how to build. Another great graveyard review, this looks a very interesting one but agree it doesn’t look that spooky! Mighty fine tower there. Now that market looks pretty special but better be good for 12 euros. It doesn’t look look very pretty. Love the blacksmiths, it reminds us a bit of Salzburg. Mmm mulled wine and amaretto and great looking pizza thing. How lovely to have a forest trail too and with live music too, wow it does look pretty special. A small fair and petting zoo, it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Blimey that Nutella thing is making my teeth itch just looking at that. Really enjoyed that both and we wish you all the happiest Christmas time, have a great one, sending love from North Wales x

  8. I am living in Regensburg and I am never going there. Guess, it’s more for tourists. The best ones for me are still at Haidplatz, Neupfarrplatz and Spital.

  9. This really does look magical. A Christmas market inside a palace courtyard is something else, and the slow-travel pace fits the place perfectly. I like that you showed Regensburg beyond the obvious spots first and saved the market for the evening — the atmosphere, lights and details really shine then. Definitely feels like one of those markets you remember long after the trip.

  10. I cannot recommend the St Johannis Graveyard in Nürnberg enough. It's also evangelisch (of course, it's franconian) and especially while the roses are in bloom (early summer, around June) just beautiful. Albrecht Dürer was burried there and there are so many more graves worth visiting
