Can I put a electric motor on one of these bikes? If so, which one would you and why?

Just moved to NW Arkansas and looking to surprise my wife by putting an electric motor on one of her bikes.

She really only rode the purple, this was when we were in Ohio. Perhaps the white one is the better options to be able to ped assist up the hills for mtn biking?

  1. Well you wont be able to and realistically shouldn’t. You will break your wife’s bike no doubt.
Also trek literally makes a domane+ the exact bike but electric

You can get conversion kits, which mostly require switching out a wheel for one with an e-hub that then connects to a battery placed on the handlebars or down-tube.

A word of caution though… I would absolutely avoid the one of the many random cheap kits you can buy on sites like Ali Express. A friend of mine is a firefighter and the number of fires they have been over the past few years caused by these cheap kits and bikes, esp with many food delivery riders using them, is insane! The quality of the wiring, batteries and chargers they use is highly questionable.

Personally, if I was going to do it, I wouldn’t do it to the Domane, esp if she likes riding that bike as is. While you’ll gain the added e-power, it will also massively change the balance and handling of the bike and be pretty horrible to ride.

The other white MTB Trek will be more suited to it, but you’d just need to find a kit with suitable battery placement because of the limited downtube space.

Alternatively you could also look for a complete e-bike, there are some amazing deals at the moment

    Hope that helps.
