Why Guderian Was Never Tried at Nuremberg. After World War 2, Heinz Guderian, the “father of blitzkrieg,” surrendered to the Americans on May 10, 1945. Imprisoned until 1948, he avoided war crime charges and began writing Panzer Leader—a memoir that became his path to redemption. After release, he lived quietly near Füssen, shaping his image as a “clean” general who opposed Hitler. He later helped build West Germany’s new army, and his son held his old role. Guderian died in 1954, but his book and ideas shaped NATO tank strategy for years.

  1. All these Nazi Generals were complicit in war crimes and crimes against humanity on the Eastern Front. The historical record was distorted by books like these, but became clarified in the 1990s when the Soviet Archives were opened to the West. Not just these generals, but the great mass of soldiers were complicit in these crimes. The myth of the "professional " Wehrmacht was a bad joke. The killed 25 million innocent civilians in the most horrendous ways, and rape was ubiquitous. The Nazis thought the Slavs were a subhuman (untermenchen) "race" and treated them worse than animals. The overall strategic plan was to Annihilate the Soviets and colonize their land with "pure bred" Nazis.

  2. Like a lot of nazis. Never prosecuted for their war crimes. Albert Speer was another one. He was the third Reichs main architect who deliberately used slave labour to fill the factories in horrendous conditions. Werner von Braun the pioneering rocket scientist and his team were dedicated nazis using slave labour to build factories under mountains. The slaves were often brutalised and starved. Yet Von Braun and his team were given American citizenships, living the American dream. The few nazis the Allies executed had no use. Most of the high ranking nazis escaped to South America, with the Pope's blessing and a passport out of Europe. Makes one wonder who the real enemy is.

  3. and all US troops were war criminals and the government at that time as well by throwing nukes on two Japanese cities full of civilians …. so no one of the US should throw stones when sitting in a glass house !

  4. I've read that book as 18 year old during national services.I do remember his account on the attack of Yugoslavia in April 1941.They have encountered fierce resistance on the northern border but than they have find out that soldiers that were opposing them were mostly Slovene and Croat …Than they employed propaganda tools …dropped the flyers, broadcasted loud broadcasts in Slovene and Croat asking the Yugoslav soldiers to desert or to surrender.Aftrr day or two there was no more Yugoslav army to oppose them on that sector…Everybody went home… Deserted….Croats got the independent state as a reward and Slovenes were send packing to Croatia and Serbia because Hitler decided to expel Slovenes and germanixe German part of Slovenia.
