I spent a month cycling solo from Ireland to Belgium without really preparing – and learned most things the hard way. This is Episode 3: West Cork.
🚴 WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS EPISODE:
THE ONE WHERE GOOGLE MAPS LIED (Day 6, Sept 11)
I left Kenmare feeling confident and took a “shortcut” suggested by the algorithm. It turned out to be a hiking trail over a mountain. I spent more time pushing my 25kg bike than riding it.
THE ONE WITH THE ANGRY NANNIES (Day 7, Sept 12)
After riding 8km uphill, my legs gave up. I tried to hitchhike to Castletownbere, but after being rejected by several cars (and some angry-looking grandmothers), I swallowed my pride and took the bus.
THE ONE WITH THE WEDDING CRASHERS (Day 9, Sept 14)
A day of mechanical disaster. My thru-axle seized in the rain, my tire went flat in a public park, and I was saved by a stranger with a can of WD40. Instead of finishing the ride to Skibbereen, I met a fellow bike tourer and we joined a after-wedding in Ballydehob.
📍 THE ROUTE:
Start: Waterville
Stops: Kenmare, Glengarriff, Castletownbere, Sheep’s Head, Mizen Head, Schull, Ballydehob.
Following: EuroVelo 1 / The Wild Atlantic Way

Hahahah heck yes Rick! I stopped at that same lidl for like 2 hours. We should have filmed way more on this trip, that wedding night was off the charts. Looking back on it they were such good days. All the best my bro, so nice to see the memories 🤠
