Nine Riders. One Airplane. A World First.

Nine riders from Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe just made history, becoming the first cyclists to tow a plane into flight using pure human power.

The team hit 54km/h and averaged 650 watts over a 90-second all-out effort to launch pilot Andy Hediger and his airplane into the sky.

Engineering mastermind Dan Bigham guided the operation as the riders stayed locked together in a specially designed harness, holding a perfectly straight line while delivering maximum power. The challenge? Balancing the forces between all nine cyclists to keep the group unified during the intense effort.

A groundbreaking moment where cycling meets aviation—powered entirely by human effort.

The riders:
Florian Lipowitz
Callum Thornley
Davide Donati
Nico Denz
Jordi Meeus
Tim Van Diyke
Laurence Pithie
Gijs Schoonvelde
Adrien Boichis

  1. They were once cyclists; great men of sports. Then RedBull the Deceiver gave to them nine Bicycles of Power. Blinded by their greed, they took them without question, one by one falling into darkness. Now they are slaves to his Airplane. They are the RedBull Riders: neither living nor dead. At all times they feel the presence of RedBull, drawn to the power of the One. They will never stop pulling the Plane of RedBull through the skies.

  2. Wow what a giant waste of time and money. Why doesn't redbull just have the riders and pilot volunteer at a foodbank and donate whatever ridiculous sum of money this cost to the foodbank.

  3. Excitement/risk ratio is poor on this one. Not to mention the engineering, or the lack thereof. You know there are multiple models of 8-person cycles out there you could mod, right?

  4. I wonder when red bulls can be sued to the point they can't stay in business for doing all these extreme weeks, dangerous and against the lawhalf the time. Stuff I have watched this video just started , and I refused to because i'm tired of doing extreme dangerous Stuff in making harder for other people like some of their planes has created new laws.We can difficult for people licenses

  5. This is a ultra light glider, not a “plane”. There is nothing special on this stunt, just some cyclists pushing.

On 1988 Daedalus 88, flew a distance of 115 kilometers from Heraklion on the island of Crete to the island of Santorini, just powered by 1 cycling man, that was an incredible achievement.
