At the Nuremberg Trials, Hermann Göring, Hitler’s second-in-command, challenged the court itself, claiming it was “victor’s justice.” His bold defense remains one of the most controversial moments in postwar history.

The Nuremberg trial is nothing but victor’s justice. This is a show to destroy Germany. >> That’s what Herman Guring declared at the Nuremberg trials in 1945. As Hitler’s second in command, he stood out among the accused. Guring didn’t just defend himself. He challenged the court. He argued that the Allies, while judging Germany, had themselves committed crimes by bombing cities and killing civilians. He insisted the court was a tool of the victors designed to punish Germany, not deliver impartial justice. He repeatedly pointed out that actions under his command were not considered crimes at the time, questioning the legitimacy of the tribunal. When the verdict came, he was sentenced to hang. But Guring chose his own end, swallowing poison the night before his execution. In his mind, it was one last victory to die on his own terms, not at the hands of his conquerors.

  1. Ja unter anderem, aber die Alliirten wollten in erster Linie ihren Völkermord an Deutschland, ihre blutigen Hände damit wieder sauber waschen, denn mehr war es auch nicht als ein reiner Mord.

  2. When you put it like that he had a point. Absolutely evil to the core but his points were valid about the allies. But interestingly where do you draw the line. Were the allies killing innocent civilians for the greater good? Similarity in many conflicts. Including the war with Hamas.
