In this video I look at Cowcaddens road and how the cycle lane is starting to take shape there. This includes some drone shots of the progress so far. This was mostly filmed on the 30th November. After that I head to St Georges cross to see how that is coming along. Compared to my last visit there you can now see the shape of the bi directional cycle lane before it crosses over to the north side of the road. then I head to Byres road to look at the junction with university avenue. From there I cycle to Yorkhill street as they are building a continuation of the cycle lane that’s on Old Dumbarton road there. Then its along to Argyle street and we have a look at the closed part and the progress there. You can see how quickly its going now that the road has been closed. After that its South Portland street and I’m quite happy with the work so far as it looks to have taken off since my last visit. Then its up the south city way until Langside road and how it’s now been made permanent from Grange road junction all the way to the entrance to the park before the roundabout.
Morning. Is it morning? I don’t know. Is where you are. I’m just checking out some cycle lanes in and around Glasgow. See this guy stops for me. Escad’s road. And it’s very icy today. So I’m being super super careful. Probably going bit too fast right now. But you need to see how wide this cycle lane is. I’ll just cross over here. I mean, look at that. That’s great. Heat. Heat. Even looking at the plans, it never occurred to me that it was going to be this wide. So, this is a great thing. What I’m going to do just now is I’m going to head over to St. George’s Cross. Then I’m going to go to Buyers Road at the junction with University Avenue. And then after that look at a girl street. Then after a girl street, South Portland Street and then I’m going to go to Queens Park cuz I’ve been told that there’s a we bit of work going on up there. So let’s head to St. George’s Cross. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. I was planning on getting a drone shot at this junction, but the only bit that’s been added need is this bit on the west side. So they must be doing the cycling on the west side before moving over to the east side. It’s going to take ages to do this. Thanks very much. a GTI Golf. You have a look at that. That is glorious. Go this way. So, is this a continuation of a cycle lane going down there gardens short street? Try to figure out what that means. No, I don’t want to go up that way. There’s only I hate that weaving in and out. I put this Thanks. Yeah, that’s good. That is green there. Huh? So that’s cool. Brilliant. That’s what I like to see. So St. George’s Road, that’s pretty cool because they’ve worked our way up to just past the junction on Mary Hill Road and up to the satellites uh pedestrian crossing and then it’s going to cross over the road from there. Um the other thing we went to was Buyers Road at University Avenue. that junction they’ve just added one we bit onto that and then after that we went to what we call it connecting York Hill and Kelvin Grove and you can see the cycle lane’s been started on York Hill Street which is great it’s just a little we network around about there which will help um the other thing we went to see was South Portland Street and South Portland Street. That’s the first time I’ve actually seen a cycle lane or the imprint for a cycle lane there. So, and then we got down to the junction and this started the Cyclops junction there. So, you can see we bits that take shape. The thing about this is this is all kind of add on to areas that are already like kind of got high amount of cyclists. So, I was quite happy to come up to the South City Way and see that they’ve made that we bit up the back there. Can’t remember the name of the street permanent, but uh that’s that’s a big thing. And I’ve talked about that in videos before where you put the soft segregation down. If it works, then put something permanent in. If it doesn’t, change it. Put it somewhere else. Oh, sorry. I’m blind. Heat. Heat.

Thanks for taking the time to film how the cycle lanes are comming on, its great to the progress. Thanks.
Great footage as always. I'm curious to see how South Portland St links up with South City Way, and looking forward to Grange Rd to Battlefield Rest extension.
Lovely soundtrack on this one. For those of us who don't ride in winter, there will be a lot of new routes to take in come the spring/summer. Excellent!
good video that would be even better with commentary on the various streets filmed. sometimes its difficult to identify the location when moving across the city.
So many exciting works in progress. I'm going to be visiting Glasgow over the winter holidays, and while the stuff featured here won't be done that soon, I'm very much looking forward to having a peddle around and checking out what's new since I was there in summmer 2024 – starting with the Govan Footbridge!
I've no been to the city centre for 10 years due to disability, so it's strange to see how much it has changed. One day they'll improve battery range on mobility scooters so I can return. Cheers for the video!
Excellent video yet again. Its great to see the progress being made. I cycled along dumbreck road today and it looked as though they have started work on the active travel path, which is long overdue because the current shared use path is brutal to cycle on.
Good video mate. Where did you get those shades by the way?
hope more use cycle lanes
Maybe you can all stay off the pavements otherwise I'll be driving in the cycle lanes , damned menaces.
C'mon Glasgow! I used to walk across Cowcaddens road every day for uni years ago. I read last year that Edinburgh has the highest percentage of bicycle commuters in the UK at 10% with Glasgow nearby in second or third at 6%. Hopefully Aberdeen will follow suit. We should be learning from cities like Amsterdam and Tokyo where everyone owns a bike.
I'm all for cycle lanes in the city, but there is no need for them on the outskirts. They need to be removed. The council is fudging the number of users of the lanes outside the city limits, especially in my area. I walk to work, and during peak times, you hardly see anyone using the lanes. You can count the users on one hand between 07:30 and 09:00, and even fewer between 1700 and 1800 hrs. Not even the Deliveroo or Just Eat delivery uses them.
Great to see it. What drone do you use?
