Good day, transetters, and welcome to the 2025 mage show here in Portland, Oregon. I’ve got a lot to cover. The best show coverage without doubt. Let’s get cracking. I’m Bradford Smith, uh, working for Maid Show specifically, but also I am debuting, showcasing some bikes that I’ve been building, uh, over the years. >> Which bikes are those, mates? Show us the bikes. >> Company name Afters. built years of bicycles for other companies. And when I’d shut the lights off, I’d start getting to work on some bikes that I wanted to ride and bikes that friends of mine wanted to ride. Something like this. Um, dirt bike, gravel bike, cross bike, sort of all the bikes that I want to ride. And fortunately my >> uh friends and community want to ride as well. >> TIG welded steel bikes handmade in Portland, Oregon. One by one [Music] [Music] [Music] What’s going on? What’s your website, mate? >> After hoursframebuilding.com. >> We have another cool bike here by a Hearn. I believe that’s a local brand. I have interviewed that builder before. I think his first name is Joseph. And with that said, this is a bike featuring the pinion drivetrain and couplers and a bunch of very useful racks, etc. [Music] But if you check out my mate show coverage from 2024, namely the video beginning with a, you’ll see and learn more about a bikes. Forgive the lack of detail on this VDI. >> Hey, I’m Mark. I’m the service manager of Bike Friday. This is our brand new prototype of the of the Alpaca. This is actually officially our third version of the bike. The main differentiation here is that this one’s got through axles front and rear. I mean, we’ve been building bikes for 33 years, and this is the first through axle bike that we’ve ever made. Um, this one’s got boost wheels, front and rear. Yeah, this one has electronic shifting, but it’s adaptable to every sort of we do rolloff internally geared hubs um with a chain tensioner. There’s no belt drive on that one. Um, but we configured them drop bar, we configure them flat bar, and uh you know, this one can actually accommodate up to 28 tires. So, it really helps on the mixed surface terrain. So, the fold mechanism is pretty snappy. >> Um, folds up like so. >> And then there’s a couple different ways to carry them, but just to basically get it in the trunk of the car, on a bus, or on the train. That’s that. >> That’s pretty impressive. What does it weigh across? >> I mean, it varies on the configuration. I think this config is probably about 27 pounds. Not bad. Um, but it’s pretty capable. Are you familiar with the Oregon Outback route here? It’s a 350 mile route. Like Willie the designer did that in the prototype process on this bike. Had great success. >> There we go. Yeah, >> that’s just the website. >> Um, bike.com. >> Guys, what are you doing? You’re laying around. I would like you to tell me about the brands here at this booth. >> It’s pretty warm, so we’re laying. Uh, that’s Steve Balinki. >> Mr. >> I’m Casey. I build Mars Cycles. He builds Belinki Cycle Works. And when we work together, we do Junkyard Cats. >> Stay there, boys. >> How you feeling? >> Beat. Yep. But hey, it’s been nice to talk to people about our bikes. >> You got energy to talk about any of these bikes? >> Uh, >> he doesn’t really want to hear about the bikes. >> I mean, they’re really nice bikes. We should talk about them. This bike uh is my my customer and a friend Max Boardman uh had a Mars which got stolen out of a bike shop while he left it there to get fenders installed. That kind of sucks. So anyway, he got it replaced with a a new custom one for himself. And his friend, Damn it, I can’t remember his friend’s name. I’m so sorry, friend. >> His friend painted this bike and he did a really nice job. >> And uh it can do anything. He’s got his gravel bike with sliding dropouts and he can ride single speed. There’s also a steel fork sitting back there for it, which he can put a rack and bags on, also painted to match. Now guys, if somebody wants to find out more about Junkyard Cats, Mars, and Blinky, where will they go to on the internet? >> Uh, they can go to our Instagram, uh, either Junkyard Cats, Balinki Cycle Works, Mars Cycles, and uh, we’re there with uh, some photos and things. >> All right, thanks a lot. >> Bingham Builts of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Those guys are not here at the show, but they have a bike here. It looks like an all-road bike of some kind. the seat post. I have one of these in for review, so be sure to stay tuned for that. Layback seat post with some lovely anodizing. I’m assuming tire appearance is somewhere around 35 to 40 mm. Obviously, there’s nobody here from being built at the show. So, you get what you get here today. >> Let’s try and get a drive side view of the bike. already >> and this is built from titanium. You can’t really tell it’s welded because all of the texture and the the kind of >> the Bingham has a ton of mounts. You have the usual mounts on the down tube and seat tube beneath the down tube aka the cow cher position as I call it. And this is nice to see on a bike of this nature. Top tube mounts. Love those. I’ll link the Bing and Built website in the description below. Hey, I’m Pierre. I’m down here at the Made Bike Showing off my Blaze bicycles. Um, here we have a a nice bike, a concept that I call the newsman. You guys remember the news boy? He’s all grown up now. And this is an all-road concept bicycle. And again, like all my bikes, all of the frame components are made in-house. So, in here you can see um the dropouts I made last year, too. Here’s the prototype of them. They’re very cool. They’re um with the brakes included, brake mount included. And we have some really nice anodizing on the logo here where I was able to get an outline in anodizing. >> This is titanium. >> This is titanium. Yep. All of my bikes are titanium. >> And we have another bike over here. >> Oh, this one uh this one came out really nice. And this one actually has a nice brushed finish as opposed to um this the bead blast did finish. And I have a lot of engraved details on here. Like for example, this logo is actually engraved into the tube here. And each of the tubes are um shaped. So these are all by oval tubes. And the thing I’m the most proud of on this bike is again the dropout. I have a new dropout design. It’s a modular dropout design. Um and again that’s CNC in my workshop as well. So here are the new modular dropouts. And these are U uh UDH compatible, so you can use the universal derailure hanger. And uh I’m really happy with the way the shape turned out. You can put in different inserts uh for different brakes as well as for um rack mounts or different features that you want. And we can probably adapt them for whatever the next standard will be. [Music] Yeah. Where is your website? >> My website is blazebicycles.com. >> Hey trends setters. We’re here at the breadwinner cycles booth and they’re based out of Portland, Oregon. He’s busy. Anyway, moving on. So, uh, forgive me. I don’t know much about these bikes here, so I’m just going to film and do my best. This is probably steel, though. It’s a commuter bike of some kind, obviously. Pretty nice. Red winner has been around for a very long time. >> The woman beside you. >> Yeah. >> Paints all. >> She’s the painter. >> You should. >> Oh my god. I just learned >> she was me painted every single one of these. This that lady right there, she paints the bikes. All right, so I’m not going to disturb the conversation. Let’s continue here. >> Thanks for that tidbit. Here we have another sweet ass bike by by Winner. >> And finally, this is the A-O model. >> Yeah, I know. and like well in that >> right >> and you can learn more at the pre winter cycles website linked below. There he is. There’s the man. He’s busy. Let’s get going. >> Hey, I’m Mike Yak from Bridge Bike Works. We are Canada’s only carbon fiber bicycle manufacturer making frame and fork entirely in-house in Toronto. Here at we’re launching our new custom paint program. So basically we have a various levels of custom paint. color span one where you get to pick your frame and logo colors. We have a color span three where you pick your fade colors. We have a raw carbon option. And then this is an example of our color span unlimited. So full custom paint program literally launching today. We’ve got it on the website if you want to check it out. bridgeikeworks.com. And this is just one example sort of this watercolor acetone style paint. Uh, but we can really do almost anything you can dream of. We do all paint in house. Uh, the bike itself, Surveyor, is a I would say call it a chubby tire road bike or a really fast gravel bike. It’s a roadish geometry with 40 mm tire clearance. That’s a conservative number. You can see the 40 PLLI’s on here with lots of room to spare. We’ve had customers run 45s, a little bit tight. Uh, and yeah, we built it to be like essentially a bike you can take on road rides and then you can do some fast gravel rides on as well. Had it ridden at Unbound and some big gravel events around the world. Uh, trying to build a bike in North America that we think competes on the performance side with the big brands, but built to a higher quality standard. Uh, we’re here at the Cycle Path booth, uh, local dealer in Portland. Um, and uh, this bike has some Wolftoothoth components on it. The purple Wolftooth uh, integrated arrow headset uh, seat collar. This is a classified by TRP Vistar build. So, full classified by Envy wheels. Um, we don’t have this bike on the website as a build option, but we can do it if you’re interested. Got the Envy onepiece cockpit on here. Uh frame price is 6,500 Canadian or around 4,700 US. And really proud to be doing it all in North America and talk to us if you got more questions. >> bridgebikeworks.com. >> Hey um Greg from Wendia Bicycles based here in Portland and these are the bikes I brought to the show. This first one is a commuter bike packer. Um the whole project started around a NIX rear derailer. He wanted to run with that and we built the rest of the bike based on that stainless steel reel triangle and seven-speed cassette and he’s in love with it. U derailer >> that’s all all three of these are sort of focused at the start from the drivetrain. this this purple one over here, he he really wanted to run with the pinion drive, the e-shift uh smart shift pinion, and that was the start of the project. And then we went from there. This touring bike, um, he had these campy 10-speeds and a Shimano 8-speed setup in back that he knew the math would work and they shift beautifully. And so that was a defining start of the bike. And but then a fully loaded touring bike with low rider pantiers that we don’t have here and uh rando bag and saddle bag. He had had a lot of experience with the saddle bag flopping off his legs and we built this standoff rack to keep it supported and up and away from his legs. And so >> what’s your website? >> Uh wendia bicycles.com. >> This is Michael with Bike Flights. This is my Chumba Turlingua bike. Dude, the front ends, the handlebars, >> they’re coefficient. >> Yep. >> We’ve got coefficient handlebars. Uh we’ve got a Can Creek invert with industry 9 50 mil carbon wheels. Uh steel Chumba Turlingua bike with set up as a single speed wheels manufacturing assisted with the uh solo spline. Titanium crank set by Can Creek with power meter >> E-wing and uh the Wolftooth arrow ring. >> We are not messing about here, man. And Race King tires by Continental. >> That’s right. >> Beautiful bike >> 2.0. [Music] >> Shipped by Bike Flights. >> Learn more at bikeflights.com. >> Hi, this is Daniel. I’m with Komotion Cycles. We’ve been building uh tandem and single bikes down in Eugene, Oregon since 1988. Um so one of the exciting things that we’re showing here at the show are uh some of the tandemss that we’re building. So all of these uh this is the steel head tandem. Uh so this is built with the Stram uh system here, Stram access, carbon cranks, and all of this gets handbuilt in Eugene. Not just the frame, but something that we’re really proud about is uh we machine our own components kind of like the head tubes, uh bottom bracket shells here. Uh same thing with our seat collars. Uh these Stoker seat post also get made inhouse. Uh and then our CNC machine yolks as well. And so we’re extremely proud of being able to bring that inhouse. We also, you know, are building uh e tandemss now. So based on a similar platform, you know, something that is um an all-road going E tandem. So this is built with a uh Bosch uh performance line uh motor there and a again a Shramm access. Uh but a Bosch uh system is also available and that has an integrated uh supernova lighting system there. Uh we also make you know pretty fast uh road tandem. So, this is an aluminum macchiato. Um, so that shaves about 4 lbs from a a steel frame there with some Royal Prima wheels which are also uh built down in Eugene. Uh this is a really beautiful one which uh really you know we we built this one actually in 99 and uh since then we’ve really focused on making fun uh tandemss and because it h we have a lot of those capabilities uh in house we’re able to pivot and and make unique stuff like this happen. So we’re really excited to bring this one to the show. Uh this is built with uh 26-in wheels here uh and a nice uh vintage Chris King headset there >> and really wild tubing. >> Yeah. So this is all uh externally formed here. Uh funny story, you know, one of our suppliers had this laying around and uh Dwan would tease like one day I’m going to end up with this uh tube set and sure enough one day they had to move and they called Dwan and said hey come by and pick up the tube set. And so it’s been part of the family for a while now and we’re super excited to bring it here. Um so we’ll bring you here. You know, um a clatch is is one that we’re uh really excited about. Uh so this is built with a Columbus tubing here. Again, our own CNC machine uh head tube there. And there’s a very beautiful paint job here. Uh we also have all of that capability in house to be able to do custom painting. You know, if uh there’s a specific pattern or or paint job that people are looking for, uh we’re more than happy to make that happen. Uh that’s one of the things that really makes commotion stand out. This is our TMLO adventure bike. Uh and so this is built, you know, this frame is completely suspension corrected. It actually has a suspension fork on there. It’s a Rock Shocks Reeba and it also has the uh Stram reverb electronic uh wireless seat post there. Astro wheels again another uh company down in Eugene and you know all handbuilt uh with their own CNC machine components. And this is another really exciting one. This one’s built with a pinion uh smart shift system and so electronic shifting. We have the uh the battery there externally to really, you know, uh increase the ease of maintenance and obviously as you know the pinion uh system, super bomb-proof with a gate system on there. This is built for multiple days, multiple weeks on out on the road. Um so that’s another exciting one. Dynamo hub on this one. uh goes to a sine wave uh cycles uh light there. So this is uh one of our show bikes. Uh this is actually my uh personal bike. Uh so this is a custom sizing to really fit my uh my geometry quite well. I’m on the shorter side. Uh and so with this one, I really wanted to show off, you know, everything that we do in house. Uh so our we machine our own dropouts and these are also uh polished as well. Uh very nice tires from Ultra Denomico. Uh this is a Zapotech inspired uh motif. I’m from Waka, Mexico. Uh and so our painter was able to achieve that all in house. It’s a travel bike. You know, I’m planning on taking it on a lot of trips here coming up. And so polish couplers on that. We we make uh a ton of uh travel coupled bikes that also has a dynamo hub as well as well as a >> I mean uh integrated front light there and even those small bits. So that light mount we also CNC machine uh in house uh which you know it it’s fun it’s fun to do those small bits. >> What’s that? uh commotion cycles.com. >> Hi, I am Isaac Denim. I am representing Deanma from Northern Italy. Uh our website is denema.it. We make steel and carbon custom bikes. All bikes are painted in house. Every frame is custom geometry. Every bike has a sole. Every bike is your bike. We make gravel. We make road. And uh today I have brought a steel gravel bike, the Defer. This is uh Dachi tubing, a data fork, full data cockpit, and ready to rip. I have also brought a very special Americas later this year. Again, still custom geometry. It is, as far as I know, one of the few custom geometry arrow road bikes in the world. And that is built and painted to your specifications. I have lastly brought our Redando. This is the all-around lightweight road bike. This frame before it is painted is 750 g. It is a lightweight climbing bike. Regular seat post. You can build it however you want. You can have it painted however you want. And it can be your custom geometry as well. If you need to find these beautiful bicycles, where would I go? I think you mentioned it, but mention it again. >> I did. Danma.it. >> Yeah. Hey there everybody. This is Mike Dalvo from Dalvo Custom Cycles. I’m a small builder down in Ashlin, Oregon. Uh this is actually 26 years of bike building for me. So I’ve been at it a while and uh fun to be back here at the maid show as always. Although it’s a little warm today. Um I brought some fun stuff this year to the show. In addition to the uh the old Baja bug, um we’ve got a um a bike that’s the official collab, the first official collab between myself and John Slott from Land Shark. So, we uh we decided we need an official collab name and these are going to we’re going to call them Swedish meatballs moving forward. So, these are going to be metal bikes, either steel or titanium, uh that are built by me, and then uh go over to John Slott for paint. And if you know Land Shark, he can uh kind of put anything and everything on a on a bike frame. So, super cool stuff for sure. Um this one’s, you know, just a fun gravel bike that I did. Um but lots of nice touches. The folks from uh Astral did some custom wheels with white Cerakote on the rims and on the hubs to kind of play off of the uh the Baja bug here. Um bike is mostly Columbus tubing. It actually does have a true temper down tube. Some NOS stuff I have left over. And the drivetrain is a one by Shimano uh Di2 wireless. So, pretty cool stuff. Um, a really fun project for sure. And then obviously the coloring is going kind of going to go with the Baja bug that we have here, which by the way, this car is uh the actual car that I first car I ever owned in high school. Last saw in 1993, and I came across it on Facebook Marketplace just about a year and a half ago. So, a fun one to have here for sure. What’s your >> website? Davocycles.com. >> And incidentally, folks, if you can hear this, there is a friendly tour of my facility and some storage facility linked below. You can see bikes like this and paint jobs like this actually happen. [Music]

  1. I spent my life on bikes, grew up on them.. love all types of bikes and riding anywhere as much as possible!! Sometimes though I feel embarrassed and let down by pretentious tattooed indoor sunglasses wearing let's be different and lie on the floor hipsters thinking they're too special to chat and have a normal conversation. I just don't understand why some are like that. I'm pretty sure it's a tough gig making and selling bikes… I'd understand if they were teenagers but they ain't.

  2. Bike Friday! So cool. Great company. Serious sublime travel bikes. The whole ethos of the annual Made show is such a great element of our times. Incredibly skilled crafts people. All of them. God bless them. Beautiful examples. No gorgeous. Relentless purists in the pursuit to keep the art or bicycle building going. To all them thank you. And thank you JOM for helping them to do this.

  3. Why did you skip Celilo Cycles?!?! I know we don't quite fit in at the MADE Plumbers Convention ("ooh! Look at the new polished 3D printed reducing wye!!!"), but it's a bit aggressive to skip us all together …

  4. Nice!

I saw the Swedish Meatball bike at Flywheel Bicycles in Talent Oregon. Peter at Flywheel built the bike up. The Baja Bug story is cool too. Fantastic bike stand!

  5. Thank you for the incredible coverage as always, Jayson. Every show is such a busy time for all builders. Your coverage allow us and consumers who were not able to attend, the ability to enjoy the show even after the show is over. We hope you had a great time in Oregon, despite the record temperatures!

  6. I used to have a Bike Friday and I consider their folding design the best in the business since it gets stronger with weight applied. I'm surprised they took so long to bring out a bike with through axles.
