I’m no expert, but I see xbiking as a fairly straightforward return to the first generation of mountain biking, which I lived.

Back then, you could get a skinny tire road bike, a bmx bike, a commuter bike with a basket or make your own klunker.

Then the first 26 inch fat tire bikes came out and people like me loved it. I rode dirt and trail and jumps, commuted to class, work, grocery store… etc on it, did triathlons on it, and did a few very long multi day trips on it.

I mostly ride dirt jumps and park now. The last time I tried a local trail the $10k full suspension bike, polar heart rate worshipping strava crowd seemed to have jumped the shark with the sport. But that’s just me: I like enjoying riding, not making it another stressor.

Nice to see a group that still gets it and at least has some kind of sense of humor or whimsy and just likes riding around.

Obligatory frankenbike pic.
