Perpignan Short Holiday – The PERFECT Combination of City & Sea?

We take a short vacation in the beautiful city of Perpignan in the South of France. Situated close to the Mediterranean Sea, we thought this would make there perfect autumn break, combining the cultural heritage of the city, with some time spent relaxing on the beach. oh thanks for clicking on this video we uh decided we needed a little Autumn break so it’s 13th of October Friday the 13th today and uh basically I went onto Ryan A’s website clicked on our local airport which is Birmingham and had a look to see which was the cheapest flight I could find and that brought us here somewhere we hadn’t really ever considered before which is perol uh down in the south of fros we came to ni probably 10 12 years ago now and had a really good time um but uh yeah until we really sort of looked on Google Maps and never even really knew where pepon was but uh we’re right on the on the cusp really the border between France and Spain uh if you head over the Border you’re not far from Barcelona and uh catalunia and we’re absolutely Blown Away you take you for a wand around the city of per later where we’re actually staying only here for 4 days in total three nights but today we’ve come down to the coast into the beach which is um about 45 minutes walk and then uh a bus and then a little bit of a walk at the other end and it’s absolutely amazing um yeah we’ve been really lucky with the weather it’s still mid 20s even though it’s the middle of October absolutely fantastic so yeah we’ll show you around the coast here and the marina and then later on we’ll take a look back in per and our hotel and uh some of the sites and how we’re getting on and getting around so thanks for watching and uh let’s see how we get on so we had a really early start but it was only an hour and 40 minutes to perp yum and the airport’s typical sort of small provincial airports very easy to get through very good stuff um brilliantly the bus stop to the city center is only literally about 300 M from the the terminal building and the bus is really cheap 150 each way per person um and runs about every hour during the week but as we’ll see later it can be a bit confusing at weekends oh just left the hotel and walking up the ornamental steps into the old town and then going for a bit of a stroll this is the Ram parts of the old city it’s about 4:00 in the afternoon now which is much better time to go strolling around some Shadows to skulling on the side of the streets and uh yeah just keep out of the Sun a little bit more bit cooler more pleasant we got some of the museums up here but uh most them a shot today we’re just going to walk down into the Old [Music] Town spin good place to start with is the central marketplace now we were a bit late for the market that day but you can see there’s lots of eer is a bit touris prices but food was okay and then you’ve got the Citadel where a lot of the bus stops are as well busy this day because it was a medieval market and uh exhibition going on and then you’ve got the central Canal which unfortunately you can’t walk along but uh you can walk along the roads on the side and it’s it’s a nice central place we had a pizza that night just simple food our first night and then talk a quick stroll back through town and uh in the evenings and early in the morning it was really quiet nice to just have a stroll through and take the take in the views without uh too many people around most of the the small intimate little shops and uh streets in the center of town quite busy shopping streets so quite busy during the center of the day middle of the day then back to the Citadel from here it was only about a 10-minute walk back to our hotel sorry about the mess in the room but I thought we just show you this lovely room nice big very comfortable bed and great big shower and a nice bathroom so sorry about our stuff everywhere and then just a quick night cap and a look at the view from the the rooftop Terrace and amazingly we hardly uh hardly say I don’t think we saw anybody else using the Terrace it was a bit of a Hidden Gem really but from now point of view absolutely brilliant so this is our hotel hotel Dar and uh it’s on quite a busy road I must say the sound proof is absolutely brilliant and the star have been great really really recommend it really impressed and you got that lovely roof Terrace as well great breakfast good air con everything that you want really and and literally we’re I don’t know 50 m from the bus stop but hopefully it’s going to take us down to the beach so we found the buses really comprehensive only 150 a ticket um 130 if you buy them in advance or get a group ticket and as you can see the number three takes you right down to the coast as well which is brilliant you also pass at Hypermarket K4 and another Supermarket on the way down so if you get off the bus obviously you got to pay again but you can stock up on your shopping for the day have a picnic ready to go before you get down to the beach had some fun on the buses this morning it should have been so simple with the number three stopping right outside the hotel and bringing us down to the coast but unfortunately there was a demonstration in town which meant the buses were uh disrupted and uh we at to fortunately a couple of uh very kind French ladies uh pointed this in the right direction and went up to a different bus stop so we had a bit of a detour but we finally made it on the bus incredible it about 35 minute Journey for one and a half e anywhere around perp on the bus brilliant value and now we’re down on the coast and it’s absolutely blistering hot hardly a cloud in the sky just having a look at the fish in the marina and uh on the coffee and then probably go for a swim [Music] well some really nice bars around the marina area and along the sea front and uh about 500 M from where we are here at the marina there’s a the carall Metro as well so we had a little swim and a sunbath and really nice time on the beach I imagine in the height of Summer it’s going to be really really busy down there but from uh cly in October when we were there it was really quiet so great day went back and had some food um in town and then that was the end of day [Music] two why you keeping me waiting [Music] well it’s our second morning done down on the coast and uh well I know the weather’s been absolutely awesome but uh what an amazing Beach it’s actually Saturday morning and the beach was quieter today than it was uh on Friday so early afternoon now and we’re going to head back into town where it’s a bit more shady when we get out the Sun a little bit but yeah we’ll catch you in town in a bit a little walk through the park just across the road from the hotel more than the flowers going be quite a lot of Open Spaces here in per it’s lovely on a nice hot day you can always find a bit of shade just chill out obviously once had some birds in the cages but pretty abandoned [Applause] [Applause] now Gardens are amazingly well kept really nice nice bamboos and as you might expect really for the South Front it’s real kind of tropical arid kind of effects with the planting as well lovely foran mix sh the New Zealand for mums and then some American cacti grasses really nice that’s the exposition [Music] sent really right better walk back to the bus stop ready to catch the bus down to the coast need normally the fountains where you can uh watch of displays but you got no water in a minute near the Exhibition Center and the war memorial front of this that’s the [Music] Congress [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] you [Music] e [Music] around diamond look he T these [Music] [Music] man [Music] yeah be [Music] back [Music] [Music] well [Music] [Music] well a little trip to peron’s almost over now um to our last evening sitting up here on the Terrace having a drink and so summerized we spent about half our time out on the coast which absolute absolutely brilliant and in fact we’ve already sort of been talking about whether we come back another year and just spend more time on the coast and rent an apartment that would make for really really cheap holiday and Peron yeah lovely city lot to recommend it and nice medieval center of town lots of culture and great weather as well brilliant food we had some really nice meals out and not spent a huge amount of money that’s been really good not all good there’s some areas that are generally best avoided I think um maybe that’s just us being tourists but um yeah a few places where we didn’t feel particularly safe but if you stick to the the main shopping areas and the tourist areas you won’t go far on hotel has been absolutely brilliant so uh all in all a really nice little break and weather’s really made it for us as well it’s been great so I hope
