Actually, I will say good morning. It’s not. It’s the afternoon. We are at Dublin. We are going to go and do a massive adventure riding around the whole of Ireland. I’ve got the ferry over. I’m with my lovely friend Ja. You will catch up with her later. Is Northern Irish cross down. We got to do the whole route around Ireland. We’ve got some really fun stops. I’m not tell you the what the one stop that I really want to make. You will see. So, let’s go. Let’s go. We’re doing it. First climb of the trip. Dublin Mountains way ahead. Oh, this is a such a pretty view. Yeah. Oh, look. You can see all the the port. So, we’re heading into The Wikllo. M is how you say it. Yeah. Hello. Hello. Hey. Look at your bony deal. We’ve not only stopped that once um to get a little snack and we’ve just been taking in all the beautiful green scenery and just chatting away. However, do you know one thing that I am shocked at? I didn’t realize how expensive island is. Like, I’ve been to get I’ve been having a craving for cereals all day. So, I bought I bought some milk for maybe maybe my supper or maybe breakfast. Anyway, uh it was like €5. €5 for a milk. It’s crazy. Hi. So, Jay’s getting pizza. I’ve had Chinese and I’ve got my lovely cereals. I was going to buy a big box of cereals and I was just I was like I can’t I can’t pay that. A tenner to have some cereals and some milk. Crazy. I do love Hello. I do love a um a supermarket raid though after a ride. Although it’s dangerous cuz you just pick up loads of random stuff. Like I bought a one, two, eight pack of cereals. You know those little mini ones that you get when you’re on holiday and you’re a kid like we used to have them in the caravan. I love them. It’s cuz it makes it just makes you feel like you’re actually on holiday. Got this back. Oh, sorry. Sorry. No, it’s only filming me. It’s not filming you. It’s there’s load of people in the window. They’re like looking at me filming. I’m outside the restaurant. Oh, it’s tiny. I asked for a we one. I don’t want a big one. Big enough. Hang on. And I’m going to eat all this rice and Chinese and all this cereal. You’re a minger. You know, eat the delivery coming. We’ve got a car. You like some pizza. That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. So delicious. Hot water. Dip your biscuit in. Delicious. Look at the table. So she’s drinking this and she said she calls it tea. She’s like it’s like tea but without the tea bag. [Music] This place was so so windy. But she was so lovely. The way that she greeted us, go a cyclist. Why would you not say? She was so nice and they had lovely place for us to keep the bike. And I’m not complaining because I think the wind and the rain in Ireland are what what make it so unique and special and also very green. And like all these trips that I come on, I love the anticipation of what I’m going to see, what it’s going to feel like, what it’s going to smell like, the people that we’re going to meet. I just this is my absolute dream ideal thing to do on a bike. I just love it so much. And J is like the nicest, funnest. I don’t know. She’s just so Look at Look at that happiness. Okay, let’s go. In the green. In the green. Look at this weather. I have messed up again. It said it was going to be cold. I’m like a thermal jersey again. Snip the sleeves off. So I just put in nine stones. Nine stones. And I said, “What is it?” Nine stones. Okay, it is 57.153 kg. Look at this. I’m a little bit warm, actually. Look at the blue skies and all the green green hedges and trees. Gorgeous. Okay. Beautiful church, right? I’ve got my eyes on a Guinness and some beans on toast. We keep chatting about what food we What are you going to have? These are the best crisps in Ireland. Relish and cheddar. an iv explain yesterday what we’re doing but basically we’re going to do a thousand kilometer just over a thousand um loop around Ireland but this time we’re doing it a little bit differently because we’re doing like shorter days there’s some longer days but we’re just going to take our time sit and eat our crisps enjoy the scenery and uh laugh a lot we’ve had a couple of little little teasers Um, and so Ja, just explain like how we met. Uh, we met in 2022 maybe I think. Um, because you joined us when we went to watch the first tour to France Fam Swift uh, in France obviously. Um I in 2019 was part of the international who rode every stage of the tour to France the day before the men and then in 2022 when it was the first one that had come back again since the 80s. We were over there cheering and supporting the women and Katie was along with us and we were flat mates. Yeah, we were sharing the roots. Honestly, Ja is just like so fun. You want to you’ll see it on this trip. But honestly, just having the best time already. And yeah, just having a good old time eating all the eating all the crisps. Want to drink all the Do they do other flavors? I think they do. But this particular flavor is the best one. I want like Do they do I’d have later on. So yeah, today we’re just going to have a very steady ride. It’s like it’s not even that far. And then we’re gonna go, we’ve got a 9K to go to New Ros and we’re gonna go. I found a cafe and they got really good reviews for coffee for you. And what about beans and toast? Maybe toast. Um, it’ll be fine. We’ll find it. We’ll have a great So, this is this is the trip. It is very, very pretty. There’s loads of road works that way, but this is really nice. What you think of Waterford? Well, it’s like a bit watery for the Ford. We might be changing the route because we’re going beauty. Beauty over Braun. So, one of Jay’s friends, Annabelle, said that we should go a different route. So, we’re changing the route to go on a coastal route via Anstown rather than the Dungarin Greenway. So, I mean, you’ll know if any of you are local. Just changed the route up. So, we’re going to go and head that way. Okay, let’s go. So, we’ve got about 50k to Dungarin. Great little bike lane. Oh, look at that for a big old Tesco. That’s the biggest Tesco I’ve seen. Woohoo. I think it’s her cousin’s friend.” I’m like, “Small world. Small small country.” Bye. I had to get that. That’s so amazing. Look at all these pretty colored houses on a steep hill. Woohoo. And if any of you know anything about Ire Island, Kilk Kenny is the star of the Ring of Kerry. Like it’s a really famous, beautiful ride. And it’s about 150k. Good to go. Yes. Yeah. Ready to rock and roll. [Music] Quite ridiculous. Even how you walk makes me laugh. Like we’re about 50k in fan a little. And um just have a little snack and then we’re going to head on. But the roads this morning, they’re just really windy, pretty green, bushy roads. It’s like undulating. Nothing. No big climbs. Just like just very steady. But the it’s pretty windy, but it’s it’s all good. Look at J over there. Just sat on a load of compost. Hi. Look at me nice seat. It’s very comfy. We made Ireland again, right? It’s a running joke this trip that J takes these pictures of me and I look terrible in all of them. And look at this. But the thing is, how does she take? She’ll take two. I’m like, we were saying that I can see why so many Americans want to come here cuz it is very like mythical. It is like lots of like I was like what is leprechaun? I need a green jersey. But I was saying though that so many like I was saying three of my favorite things like I love Dairy Girls obviously Father Ted and I love Normal People. That’s that series I watched it. And one of them is like a car treasure hunt where a local community, they get in their car and just drive around and find local clues. The clues. And then what’s the other one? There’s like a farmer’s uh there’s a race a race up a hill. So a load of farmers just go race up hill and I just this it makes it all click the stories that you get in father’s head. I’m like oh this is just Ireland. This is not just like comedy. This is I is there a video? Best community in Ireland. I love it. They are with they’ve got cors. Oh yeah yeah yeah. Yeah. This is far exceeded my expectations is so beautiful and like the branded and the marking for Wild Atlantic Way is just so good. You know the other thing that I think is really really amazing about it, the clims are so gradual and steady. Anyone could ride this, anybody. Because I was thinking like compared to I know it’s a lot shorter like North Coast 500 that’s got some really steep sections in it whereas this is all really really gradual like anyone could come and do it. And we had no rain. How do you feel that we had no rain? Let’s get food. Thought it was absolutely fantastic. I loved it. The scenery is amazing. I tell you what, I really loved the flowers by the side of the road. All the wild flowers. There were so many wild flowers and all the colors. I think it’s it’s so stunning. Um, and lots of variety, but at the same time, same same, if that makes sense. Like it does change as you go around. Um, and great company. I mean, what more? I mean, Katie, you got to hang out with me. What more do you want? And stuff. It was great. Yeah. Well done you. So yeah, I would say come and do it. It’s very easy. It’s accessible, but prepare to pay for lots of pennies in Colani. It’s spenny spenny. Spenny. I actually think it’s kind of like when people go to the doomite for the Oh my gosh, what’s that route called? Alterio and no, what’s it called? My brain is ready for food. I can’t remember what it’s called. But basically when people go for like the loop around the Doommites that’s almost like similar because it was so picturesque and mountainous and pretty. It was almost like I was saying to Mark it almost felt a bit like Disney almost like a bit cuz it was so beautiful. Do you know what I mean? Like it’s like this beautiful trees. It’s a basically a straight road to Dingle and it’s like constant headwind. This is We’ve not actually had headwind this whole trip. So, day five, I can I can deal with it. This is like the best day, right? We’ve got rocks and sheep. I can see why they call it Wild Atlantic Way cuz that is it. That almost looks like Iceland. Like the rock is so black, but the sea is so clean and blue. Oh, look how nice that is. Oh, why is it zoomed in so much anyway? It wouldn’t be the Wild Atlantic Way without load of rain. Oh god. Oh, we take our bags over there. Oh, we take our bags off and that got me shoe covers. [Music] This route and this particular road that we’re on now is I think it’s one of the best that we’ve done this whole trip. Look at all the scenery through there. Where you going to take it from? Welcome to day six of ride around Ireland. So before we get into the ride today, I just want to talk a little bit about the realities of actually bike packing because I think sometimes it can look so glossy and amazing like on Instagram or even on Straa and the reality of it is sometimes quite different. So not last night where we stayed here, the night before it was so basic and the shower didn’t really work. Didn’t sleep as well. But I mean I know people sleep outside and I’m not saying this cuz I love doing this. I would not change it, but I just want to share some of the realities so it doesn’t just always look like it’s amazing all the time. So, that was that. And then there wasn’t really anywhere to have breakfast there. There was no real facilities at it. It was kind of like a really, really, really basic um hostel, but it was really expensive. Anyway, and then yesterday the ride was just so tough in the morning. It was like 50k like straight, but it was like just blockhead. We’ve had a fair bit of wind, but that was the first full-on headwind we’ve had, which I think is pretty lucky. Um, and then it rained and so it wasn’t as um it was just a bit tougher yesterday. And I think for me like it’s the day in day out stuff and it’s never not necessarily all the riding, it’s the stuff you’re doing off the bike. So getting food, cleaning your kit, charging everything. I know it’s like very basic, but those things do add up and it’s like so I’ve been away a week now and you know the main thing for me it’s the food. Oh, you get so fed up and it might be like oh you just get to eat out all the time. I’m just like I just want like a lovely home-cooked meal. Um cuz it is just a lot of junk that you’re eating. So you don’t necessarily always feel the best. But yeah, I’m not complaining. I just want to give you the the actual reality. And the other reality is our kit didn’t dry last night. We we’ve used um one of Jay’s friends washer and then we’ve got it all and it’s just um obviously we just hung it up to dry. Okay, let me tell you a few things I love about bike packing. You never know what you’re going to see, the people that you’re going to meet or the views that you’re going to obviously probably goes without saying, but I just love traveling to new places and seeing what different villages and towns are like. Dingle is like so pretty. It’s like a beautiful little spot and the towns and the villages are just so I guess the word quaint like really pretty. And the main thing the people in Ireland are just the nicest people. They’re just so chatty and helpful and just nice and kind which I really really like. Obviously makes bike packing very very fun. We’ve got a really fun day. In fact, I’ll tell you now. I’m excited because we’re going on a ferry. And you know how much I like fairies. And actually, yesterday I loved seeing the sheep. This is the way that we get out. So, Connor Passoop. So, this is Connor Pass. Little local climb. Well, I say little. It’s the biggest one we’ve done. It’s like 7k. There’s even markers like in France. It’s such a nice gradient. Pretty smooth tarmac and not many cars. That’s the top. Oh, what a beautiful view. And we’ve got a tailwind this first 100k of the ride. Pretty much tailwind the whole way. Beautiful. [Music] Look where we are. Look where we are. I think it’s like a 30-minute ferry. I was worried about missing it because my ferry from Hollyhead to Dublin I missed apparently. Like I’ve been on, you know, I’ve been on so many feries. You have to get there like an hour and a half before and I got there like 40 minutes before and they’re like, “Oh, no, it’s too late now.” Cuz you don’t actually take your own bike on. Thank you. Not like this. Look at this joy. Thank you. What is windy? Why are you walking down like a crowd? Cuz I’m afraid to slip. Thank you. And all different levels. They’re doing a 4-day tour. It’s called Tora Monster for um Down Syndrome Island. And before we came over um they were raising money on the other side and they’re waiting to cheer these on. Oh my god, it’s so good. So, it’s 600 km, 4 days to a monster. just been chatting to a load of the people doing the ride and none other than Sean Kelly who has said that he’s done that charity for the last 12 years. So yeah, that was really really nice. I’ve been there a little while, but it’s so nice. Everyone’s just so chatty and friendly. Now we’ve got 75k the other end of the ferry. 100 this morning, 75k now. [Music] got 45k to do. It’s really epic. I should do not feel weary. I do. I’m sorry. But, you know, it’s grand. You’ve had we’ve had all sorts of nonsense. Yeah. But we did meet Sean Kelly today. We met We met Sean. Yeah, we met Sean Kelly. Yeah. Will you rem? I I rem. I met him before, but yeah. And then we get they didn’t recognize me. I can’t believe it. This guy is Who is this fella? The reason that I’m sharing this cuz I feel like we always put it’s amazing. I do feel quite weary. Although we were saying thank god it’s not gray and rain because it’s quite windy. I’m like if it was really gray and windy as well, I would lose the will. I’d get a taxi. But because it’s quite nice and sunny, it’s keeping me going. This is our little we stop. It’s quite nice actually. And look at the lovely wild flowers. So pretty. But yeah, we’ve just been taking just been stopping. Everyone stops and chats. Everyone every single person. It wasn’t me that said it. Mark said Irish people are very nosy. So they chat and chat and ask you where you going, what you’re up to, where you going this, when you going that. You should go this, you should do that. It’s very, very, very, very nice. It’s pretty, but it [Music] look at that. Oh, yeah. I didn’t expect that. Wow. [Music] But again, this is another reality of bike packaging. It’s cuz I can’t be asked to train. I see. We went around the cliffs of Mohare and I had some I had my sunglasses on walking up and then walking down I didn’t have them and I thought, “Oh, I don’t think I’ve got Did I bring them?” So, I was looked back at the footage on here. Oh, I did have them. And I thought, “Oh, I’ve lost them. I’ve lost them.” Then I thought, “Oh, this is um this is karma.” Cuz I laughed because a man’s hat blew off blew off his head and I laughed a lot and I was like, “Oh, it’s karma.” And then we walked around where where we were and then I walked back and I thought, “Oh, that’s karma.” And then get this, I found him on the floor. And then um I told J I was like, “Oh, I should I should call tell the camera.” And then I was like, “Boring, boring story.” Anyway, so I’ve got my glasses. Boring. It’s so boring. It’s like, cool story, bro. The most boring story ever, but that’s what happens sometimes. Sometimes you lose your glasses, sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you find them. Anyway, we’re having an earlyish night because tomorrow you’ll not see it in this video, but the next video, you won’t believe where we’re going. I don’t know. Yeah, we are here to see where Craggy Island is, and it’s that one over there. So, not the first one. The first one’s Crab Island. The one at the back is Inisheen. And that is Craggy Island. So, there’s no actual Kraggy Island. It’s a fictional island, but that island over there is Inoseen. Is that how you say it? Yeah. And that’s where the aerial shots of the opening like titles were filmed. So just come down. This is Dualin Pier. So we just have to come down and see it before we go. Um we were chatting to where we stayed last night and they were saying that a lot of it would well some of it was filmed on those like near that ferry port near the word. Dylan Fairport. Dylan Fairyport. They were all there. Like I’m just imagining them filming it there. like they’ve been there. This is where they used to come and film it. Like for any Father Ted fans, I think my favorite episodes, we’re saying this, I really like when they gave up when Ted gave up smoking for Lent and Doo gave up rollerblading and obviously Song for Europe. That’s my favorite. After being in Ireland like for a week now, I kind of see the humor even more because I’ve realized it was actually real life stuff. Like the characters that we’ve met. Like there’s so many people that we’ve met that I’m like that could be Father Ted. That could do with Mark with the fridge. Yes. So random. Oh yeah. And then we met this guy. What was that? What was his name? The farmer. No, Dermit. No, it wasn’t Derma. And now I’ve got about 100k to do to where we going. Like 5 days. This is only 30k away. And we set off about 3 hours ago. Athlone to Dublin via Mullingar, which is going to be about 130k or so. So this route is on a greenway for about 60k I think from Athlone. I can’t remember where it goes. About 60k of the total route today is on this kind of path old railway line. Then we go left on this for 40 kilometers. Yeah. My stepdad from there counted down and he had sort of I think it’s cuz I overslept. I had so much sleep last night. You know so much sleep tired. I’m so tired. It’s chilly. Spent about an hour in here having a nice little breakfast, putting off the cold and the rain, but we’re sleepy. We just want to have a little sleep. And that greenway, it was nice, but it was like 40k of just straight. It’s very kind of boring. It’s nice that it’s off road, but then bloody Ja, old time tri made us two up it. What? Bigger work, you lazy ass. And that is the first McDonald’s we’ve seen in over well almost a thousand kilometers. Yeah. I didn’t miss a Are you ready for this? Trim Castle. This is like perfect. We had that greenway which was just straight fast and then we were on just like main roads and then Ja saw a sign for a place called Trim that she’d been before and then we’re like she’s like, “Oh, there’s a really nice castle there.” She was like, “Shall we do a detour?” Added like 20k. So, we’re like, “Okay, let’s do it.” And that’s the pretty castle. And apparently what’s swing for me? She said that hang on hold. Pause it. Pause it. Pause it. Oh, we keep missing that bit.
