If you tried to snowboard down Mount Everest, the board would gain speed fast. You would hit jagged ice and scattered rocks, bouncing and skidding with no way to slow down. And if you somehow survived that, you would be headed toward massive cracks in the ice. But these gaps are formed by the glacier pulling itself apart, meaning they’re hundreds of feet long going deep into the ice. As you speed down the mountain, you wouldn’t see it until it’s too late, dropping hundreds of feet straight down into total darkness.
