In this episode, Patrick and Jenny continue their cycle tour along the Via Rhona, Eurovelo 17, bicycle path. They begin their cycle day in Valence where they pass many joggers running along the Rhone River. They stop at a patisserie in La Voulte-sur-Rhone where they encounter a Sunday market. After they cross the bridge they stop for a picnic lunch. Next stop is the town of Baix where they walk through a cemetery. Right before they enter Montelimar they come upon a suspension bridge in Rochemaure. They share their hotel accommodations and restaurant choice for the evening.

Careful with those pastries. [Music] In this episode, we begin our cycle day in Valance, ride along the Viaona, have a picnic lunch, explore a cemetery in Beex, and end our day in Montelar, a total of 43 miles or 70 kilometers. Okay, Jenny, we’re so ready. Okay, you know where we’re going. the fancy thing. We woke up on a Sunday morning in Valenc, packed our purs, fetched our bikes from the very secure parking garage, and headed south on the Via Rona. We passed a lot of joggers that morning. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] at the town of Lavot Seron. We decided to stop and look for some tasty pastries to have later that day on the Varona. It was a very lively town with a Sunday market in full swing. Once through the market, we had to ride our bicycles in traffic over the bridge. These cars are waiting for me to pass. A very peaceful location for our lunch today. Yummy, yummy. We got this bread yesterday and Alansen it’s called or authentic or something. Authentic authentic bread. We got this um salami from the store. Mhm. And then we went to a a cheese place. We have sambar salon. Spent a lot of time. Yes. Cow’s milk. We have tum from Corsica. Uh and then and the tum corsa is peeps milk. And you can see that the tum de savoa has a more yellowish color cuz it is cow’s milk. Okay. And then it’s Sunday and we have some less ideal some less choice offerings in there and not as much is open on a Sunday. So we just stopped at this peticissery that is closing and mine fell apart which I’m a little sad apart about. Patrick’s praline I think it stood uh we might not eat those right now. That might be later today. Oh maybe right now. Okay. You ready? Mhm. I’m ready. Where are you? [Music] [Music] We stopped in the town of Beex to stretch our legs and walked through a cemetery. Okay, so Jenny and I are at this super cool cemetery underneath this beautiful cliff face and we’re wondering about the cavu cavo proviso and we’re wondering about the cavo coma. These are the common burial place. But then we have some like the Fami Pant Isach that has all the family members listed since 1792 was the first step. Yeah. No, no, no. Sorry. That person lived a long time. Born in 1792, died in 1862. All of these have this these two handles like as though one might choose to open them up at some point. You can see all of them going down the line have those. And then this one that has the [Applause] little um room on top of it has like a little altar inside and it has a different label. It says or interesting. And then some of them are a lot newer. All the all the newer ones, the ones that they’re cared for, have these individual messages to from different members of the family. Like here’s someone who passed away in 1999 and 1982. And the little messages say things like to our friend, souvenir of friendship, to our cousin, to our friend, to our aunt, to our uncle, and then this one next to it, but clearly there’s nobody left to take care of it, right? Oh, how interesting. And now there’s a little white sign. It says um like what does avi mean? Like know this the persons who interest themselves about this tomb are requested to present themselves at the mayor’s uh office. So, I guess they’re thinking if a family member were to come forth, they would like you to speak with the mayor about the situation with the tomb. Oh, I wonder if at some point they plan to reuse the space in some way. Do you see that lizard right there? Maybe you can zoom in on him. We’ve been seeing lizards all since like the beginning of our ride. There’s just lizards everywhere. He’s checking us out. [Applause] Don’t shoot. [Music] We finally found a spot to have our lovely desserts. Patrick, what did you find in there? Oh, I had this little chocolate label on my pastry. Oh, who made it? Forier back from that town. Mine is not looking so good after the bike ride. It totally fell apart. Uh, but we found the best spot. The birds are singing for us. We’re here at the Rome. We get to look at the water and enjoy. [Music] In the town of Roshmore, we walked our bikes over a very popular suspension bridge. It says uh cyclists on foot. And we went over our final bridge of the day to enter the town of Montelar. So we are in um Monte Lear Monte Lear and um we are in a house um in a room in a house and it’s a very nice house um and a very nice setup that they have. So we have the bed and there’s a little another bed. It’s got everything we can think of. Charging stations. It’s got a refrigerator. And the bathroom’s really nice. There’s a shower, toilet, sinks, a view of something. Um, so yes. and our bikes, which is the most important. There’s a place for them in their courtyard down below. So, very nice. So, we are walking down um a pedestrian street in Monte Lim Montar. Mont Lamar. It’s really neat. Montar a lot of is a newer place generally, but it has this um old core area that we’re just walking through now. I love the decorations up above. We just arrived to the square and this is what France looks like on a Sunday evening. Sunday everything closes, goes to sleep. We’re looking for a dinner spot. Patrick, what is our um food tonight? So, we are trying this Indian restaurant. So, we’ve got um vegetarian samosas that we’ve already started eating. Garlic naan, cilantro, mango, and pickle. Spicy pickle. Looks good. After a lovely evening out, we arrived back to our bed and breakfast.
