£150 bike… £4,799 wheels 🔥🤯

This humble Trek Lexa was ridden by veteran category rider, Lesley Fellows (Solihull CC) at the 2025 UK National Hill Climb Championships. Her son, David, said: “Mum was worried she might not get up the hill after failing on the recce, so we upgraded her Shimano WH-RS100s with some Lightweight Meilenstein Obermayer CeramicSpeed clinchers I borrowed off a mate.” 🆕

Lesley laughed: “The bike only cost £150 on eBay – David bought it for me after I tried my first triathlon on a Raleigh Shopper!”

She’s since raced hill climbs and triathlons alike, and even picked up an age-group title last year: “There’s a lot of good people in my category this time – I wasn’t expecting anything massive, but I got up here and I’m pleased with myself.”

Bikes like this are exactly what make the hill climb season so much fun ❤️❤️❤️

Check this out. A humble Trek Lexa. Perfectly fine, nice alloy endurance road bike. But if you take a closer look at this specific model, you’ll notice a rather tasty upgrade for today’s Hill Climb Nationals. Written by Leslie Fellows, these rather fancy lightweight wheels were an upgrade from her son who deemed her regular touring wheels with touring tires to be inappropriate for such a prestigious event. The bike is otherwise exactly as it’s ridden throughout the rest of the year for the jog rides to triathlons. Whatever. This is precisely what makes Hill Climb Nationals tech so fun and so entertaining.
