Day 9 of my mission to cycle the entire UK coastline with my dog, Taco 🐾 and today, humanity truly shines.
We leave Kirkcaldy, crossing through the Fife coastline on a short but emotional leg of the journey. Battling illness, fatigue, and steep hills, I find myself overwhelmed by unexpected acts of kindness: complete strangers recognise us from social media, cheer from their cars, and even buy us breakfast. ☕🥓
From Cumbria and the Pennines to the Scottish coast, every mile reminds me that this challenge isn’t just about endurance, it’s about people. The support, the encouragement, and the genuine human connection keep me going, even when the trike and my body are struggling.
Join us on this heartfelt episode as we push north toward Leven and St Andrews, meet incredible locals, and keep faith in humanity alive.
📍 Route: Kirkcaldy → Leven → Fife Coast

Good morning, pack mates. Day nine, I think, of riding the whole UK coastline. We’re
in Kucotti. We just left our hosts, um, Lou and Will and kids. Um, they were good.
I wasn’t 100% last night at all. That was rough. I’m losing my voice. I got chesty, bit chesty,
bit achy, shivery. Um, and I just couldn’t. Yeah, I struggled to sort of be social,
but I had the most amazing view. Uh, we just got to Kcotti and the weather’s a treat
again. There’s a little bit less wind uh than the last few days. And um yeah, we’re just going to
make progress. um only a short day today. 30 km um to my next host. Um it’s in a farmhouse.
I don’t think it’s in a particular village or anything. It’s called Levens. All being good,
we’re going to St. Andrews tomorrow. But for now, yeah, let’s get to it. I’m going to find
somewhere in Kakotti to have some breakfast. I thought there might be cafes and stuff along
the along the seafront, but I haven’t come across anything yet. So, uh, we’ll just keep going.
They did offer me breakfast at my hosts. Um, but I think they’d already done enough. They
cooked me dinner last night. Um, so yeah, we’re just going to go find a little bit of bite
to eat and uh get to it. Let’s do it. Still riding through Kotti and some chap in a truck just
went past. Go on big man. Good luck. So I’m still being recognized and there so motivated
when people recognize you and get behind you. [ __ ] Where am I? Great to complete strangers and
just bibing the horns and shouting, “Come on, good luck.” Sometimes
even by my first name or taco, humanity. Faith in humanity has
been restored on this mission. Stop killing each other. Stop fighting each other. Stop arguing with each other. Can
hell. Life’s too [ __ ] short. Yeah. Nice little park. I haven’t
seen a single cafe on that beach uh waterfront prominard. So, we’re still hungry. Oh my god. Just had to push it
up here. That is a steep hill. Now look, this street’s called Hill Street,
so it’s not going to get any bloody better round that corner. I have a
feeling I’m going to be pushing. Taco just wants to get back
on, but she’s not. Oh god. Hill stream completed it. God, that was so steep, that
little hill. I was going to record, but it’s so difficult to record when
I’m pushing this trike up the hills. really got to um I’ve got no storage on my 360 at the
minute because uh well filled it and I haven’t transferred it all to my laptop.
But uh I could have put that on, didn’t I? two cyclists just come buzzing past me and went,
“Hi, are you going to Leven?” I was like, “I am.” They almost seemed to know me. Um, and knew where
I was going and I don’t know how. It’s really boggled my mind. There was two of them and I went,
“See you in Leven.” They both said it like they knew exactly where I was going, but they didn’t
say any more than that and they just rode off. So, I’m confused. Um cuz I’m I’m going to Leven,
but I’m not I’m actually staying outside of Leven. Um I’m going to hit Leon and have some some
We’re going to have a break in Leon for some food. I don’t know how far away we are, but
yeah, that’s really permissioning. I’ll keep you updated and maybe I won’t say that. Maybe
it was just a random see you in Leven passing by comment. It didn’t make much sense. That’s
all. Let’s see. Are you just saw a really Hello, sweetie. How you doing? Can we get you a coffee
or anything? Oh, well, I was actually looking for somewhere on Google a minute ago for to get
grab something. Yeah. There’s a really good We haven’t got Hello. What are you looking for?
Oh, no. We’re just going to go get a coffee, that’s all. No, the dog seat up here. Seat
up the ice seat. Okay. Thank you. Cheers, mate. I think with your dog, they’re more likely
to let you in there up there. Or there is a there’s a kiosk up here with coffee. So, there I
just want to grab I’m going to grab something to eat as well. It’s really quite a community center
up there. Let’s do that then. All right then. So, what how did you I don’t I was so beused when
you went rode past and said they’re going to leave them. Well, because that’s a really dodgy
place up there. And somebody said to me that was looking for somewhere to stay in Kicotti, but
I couldn’t find you and we didn’t have anywhere cuz we were doing enough. I stayed in Kings uh
Kings uh Kinghorn. King Horn last night and uh I wasn’t feeling very rolled last night. So,
I’m staying somewhere near here tonight. Just done a short one and tomorrow St. Andrews. Okay.
Well, we we’re actually catching that train. So, let’s come along and we’ll get you get you. Yeah,
we’ll come up there. Oh, thank you for flagging us down. That’s all right. Just come. Do you know
what? Like that them people just bibbing me there. People are know my name on the road. And see, I
don’t I just My name’s Lee. Why don’t you shout, “Go on, Lee. Go on, Taco. Out the car.” Come
on. Let’s get very long. Okay. No worries. Wonder where we are. So, what what if there’s a
roasters here? What’s this? What’s uh the air ambulance? You can Would you
prefer to go there where you I’ve never been there? Let’s find out if they got
some food. Looks all right, doesn’t it? together. Do do Okay. Hello. Hello. You got 10 minutes. So come and do
something. Oh, I’ll just get Yeah, your train’s in 10 minutes. So, what
have you been doing today then? Oh, we we’re actually just we’ve been
decorating and building a bike sh and we’re waiting for sand to be delivered
at lunchtime. So, we said we just come down here and then we get the train back, but
there’s some data disruption. Come here. Oh, so you didn’t come out purposely looking. No, I know. I just as I just happened to I
think that that man we were told about. Come here. Come here. I’ll get you. Come over. Not
really. Oh, that’s good then. Sure. You guys being together separately? No, I’m
just I’m just getting a coffee and lunch. Okay, no problem. Have for yourself?
Nothing. I got to drink. Okay. Thank you so much. on here. Very sweet. Very
nicely flagged down in the street and offered no lunch breakfast. Good luck. Thank you
so much. No, I’m not holding you. Thank you. What’s your name? Julie. Um, I’m sorry we
can’t stop, but the trains are all over. Can I give you Are you following me? Something got
to. He came back to see where you were. Okay. Okay. And all the social media’s on there. Good
luck. Thank you. We’ve got the train. Okay. So, we got a lawn sausage. I didn’t know the
difference between a link and a lawn. Yeah. So, the square sausage is really traditional. Try it.
It’s good. It’s good. We got to go cuz it’s major disruption on the railway. All right. Well, nice
to have met you. Thank you so much. Thank you. Fun route and all that. Thank you. Thank you.
Appreciate it. Yeah, please do. Yeah. Thanks. So, that was a nice turnout for the books. Just
those cyclists that we were talking about earlier waited for me in Leon and um bought me a coffee
and breakfast. Look at that. Some breakfast. And they just wait for me and they’d heard what I was
doing. Um and as I probably told you in recent clips, That’s what’s happening to me now. It’s
insane. I love it. Um, got me coffee. Yeah, look at this weather as well. So, we’re nearly where
at my hosts now. So, we’re just going to chill. We’ll see you in a bit. This Ammonson driver
that’s approaching up now just recognized us, pulled up and had a chat. He’s got just delivering
a parcel to the same place I was staying. Cheers, dude. You’ve got the water and
everything. I’m staying at the cottage in uh somewhere down here. Yeah. Is that for the
charity? For you for a meal or something? Ah, you’re a top man. I put it in the box. I’ve got
the the weekend candy. It’s traditional Polish candy. Yeah. You cannot buy this everywhere.
Only in my Polish area been home. So you’ve just been home. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, thanks. I’m
just giving some to customers something. So you have to try. I will try. Definitely. Definitely.
Thank you. Thanks very much. It’s nice. It’s nice when people recognize us in the street because
I saw at the morning you your post on but that post got shared 130 times. Yeah. 130 people shared
it. And I’m getting bibbed in the street shouting. They know my name. They know taco. Yeah. It’s
crazy. You got the more power to pay. Well, it’s just motivation. Yeah, it’s motivation.
So, I’m staying down here tonight and uh it’s not a bad place. Bit hilly though. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Hard hard work getting here. Thanks so much. Yeah, no worries. Have a good What’s your name? Yar.
Yar. Are you following us? Uh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You are? Yeah. Yeah. I’m started today at the
morning. So Oh, cool. But but it’s weird because I saw the morning. I just woke up and then you
see he’s nice destination. See you. Cheers, mate. Thank you. What a what a guy. What a guy.
That’s the kind of [ __ ] that’s happening a lot. Um people just doing this. So today someone’s
bought me breakfast and then an Amazon driver called Yaric. Polish Yaric has given me a
tenner to do what I want with. I put it in the pot ch. But uh and then he’s given me one of his
traditional Polish sweets which I’m going to try when we get there. Get to the cottage. Awesome.
So, we’re at the host now and uh yeah, a short day. The batteries were quite low again. I’ve only
done not many kilometers. The battery seems to be only doing I mean, it only got me 26 km yesterday
before I had to change it. And what we at now? 26.6. and I’m flickering between one and two
bars. So perhaps to get just to over 30 today if if I wanted to, but where I am now is very hilly,
just had to work really hard to get up here. Um, so yeah, my battery life uh isn’t isn’t quite as
good as it was when I started. I don’t know what that’s that’s perhaps weight. I don’t think I’m
any heavier really. And I know I keep banging on about the weight of this, but this is me finding
my feet and finding my pedals and just working out realistically what what I can achieve on this
trike um without having to work too hard. Well, not too hard, but without having to put the
trike under unnecessary pressure. yesterday was particularly for the first half of the day we had
to um ride into quite a strong headwind because of the storm Flores. So I think that might have had
a lot to do with the battery power yesterday that diminished after 26k. Um, we’ve done the same
today, but like I say, pro I could probably get another, I don’t know, five 5k out of it. Maybe
eight. Um, but like I say, now it looks like I’m going to have to plan for my my journeys
between 50 and 60k. 60 at the very most. Um, and yeah, we’re just going to when we get to the hilly hilly sections in West
Scotland, we’re going to have to uh going to have to maybe find a way of unloading
a bit. Um, we just have to cross that bridge. Anyway, I think I’m here at this cottage here.
There’s a farm over there, but I’m staying here. The the host is out and this is the kind
of trust that people have been putting in me. Hello George. Told me George would be
barking at me. Hello mate. Come on. Anyway, let me go see to George. I think
he’s I’m told he’s soft as grease.
