In this video, we’re eating our way through Regensburg, tasting some of the most authentic Bavarian dishes in the city that feels like a living fairytale. Regensburg, Germany is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage city and one of Bavaria’s most underrated food destinations! 🇩🇪✨
We start with the legendary Regensburger bratwurst at the historic Wurstkuchl, paired with tangy sweet mustard and sauerkraut — a flavor combination perfected over centuries. Then, we cross the Stone Bridge to enjoy a flight of local beer at a scenic beer garden overlooking the Danube. 🍺
After soaking up those incredible river views, we indulge in a classic Bavarian tradition — coffee and cake — at one of Regensburg’s cozy cafés, which happens to be the oldest cafe in Germany, before ending the day with a true culinary masterpiece: a perfectly crispy, fall-off-the-bone pork knuckle that defines comfort food in Germany. 🍖
This Regensburg travel vlog isn’t just about food — it’s about history, scenery, and savoring the good life in one of Germany’s most beautiful and best-preserved cities. From medieval charm to mouthwatering flavors, Regensburg will make you fall in love with Bavaria all over again.
Come hungry — this is one German city you have to taste for yourself! 🌭🍺🍰
Reagansborg totally blew us away. Not just with its stunning medieval beauty, but with its incredible food. We started with juicy Reagan’sburg sausages grilled to perfection just the way they’ve done it for centuries. Then we crossed the ancient stone bridge for a well-earned beer break before heading to Germany’s oldest cafe for cake and coffee. Our favorite part of the day. Oh my lord, that pistachio of cream is. And to finish strong, the ultimate crispy pork knuckle. Fall off the bone. Tender and packed with flavor. Oh, that’s good. Rigensburg’s food, charm, and history are absolutely unforgettable. This city isn’t just beautiful, it’s a feast you’ll never forget. All right. So, for lunch, we are at the uh the verse cook or the sausage kitchen and it’s right next to the stone bridge. And this is building there’s been a building here since the 1100s and they’ve been serving food. I they say it’s the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the world. Um but we got some sausage. to the the people building the bridge, the people building the cathedral would come here and grab a a quick bite. They say it might be the the oldest fast food restaurant in the world. But I’ve got the traditional sausages, the broad vers with sauerkraut. And I’m going to have some sweet mustard. This is what they serve. This is all homemade. The sausages, the mustard, they ferment their own the sauerkraut. They ferment their own sauerkraut. So, it’s amazing. They have a stand outside. We’re going to show you where you can just walk up and get it and kind of set out by the river. It’s a little cool, so we decided to come inside today. Oh my god. That’s freaking good. They look a lot like the Nurember burger. And the Nurember burger in Nuremberg I love. But I’m telling you, this may be the best sausage I’ve ever had. It blew me away. Yeah, they eat like regular spicy mustard. I guess you this with the sweet mustard, it’s fantastic. I don’t know. You got to try it. You got to come. That’s some good sauerkraut. Sauerkraut’s really good. Really tangy. Um the beer is fantastic. That sausage may be the best sausage I’ve ever had. It’s fantastic. You got to come to the vers in Reagan’s Bourb and get yourself some broad vers. And I tell you, you will not be disappointed. This is great. All right. So, we crossed the stone bridge and we are now at the uh the Spittle Garden, beer garden. And so, and we have a flight of beer. And so, spittle is a German word for hospital. Now, typically I’m more familiar with Kraken House, which means sick house. But spto also means hospital. And think about it like our word in English, hospital. It’s just like that, except the ho is missing. So, we’re in the hospital, beer, garden, brewery. And this is a this is an award-winning brewery. So, this started in 1238. The patients in the hospital or the residents in the hospital were promised a night cap of beer or wine. And so that’s why they started the brewery to make their own beer. Um, so it’s won an award I think in 2011 the helis or the logger beer was awarded um awarded from like a a European brewers association that won a big prize. Their um fest beer is also well renowned. So it’s a really good brewery. And so here we have the helis the logger beer. We have the viten the wheat beer. We have the dunl or the dog beer. And here we have the fest beer. So, we’re going to sample them all here at the Spal Brewery, and I think it’s going to be great. We’re looking at the Old Stone Bridge and the Cathedral. And we’re on the other side, kind of a different area. It’s also a part of Rigensburg today, but used to be in former times it was like a totally different city, but got a nice view, have some nice beer, nice little break. Okay, so we did a little tour over to the other side of the bridge and now we’re back and we’re hungry. We had a little bite. So, we came back to the the the verse cooker and now we’re out in the little courtyard. We got to see them grill them and so we have one on bread. We’ve got some sauerkraut and more of that delicious sweet mustard. And uh we’re going to split a little snack to tide us over until cake and coffee time. Right, Betty? So, what do you think? It’s a great idea. All right. So, you want to have first bite? Okay. All right. So, now it’s my turn. It’s really delicious. The the sweet mustard goes really well with the the sauerkraut and the the verse. But I have to say having it in a roll, even though it’s quick and easy and it’s only €4.30 for this small thing, you can’t really enjoy how delicious the the verse is on its own in this roll, right? Yeah. I think with the roll with the sauerkraut on top, it kind of overpowers the the verse a little bit. I mean, you can still taste it. still good, but I think it was better separately on a plate. On on a plate and you could add a little bit of sauerkraut to it. It’s really good. The mustard really balances out. The sweet mustard balances out the sauerkraut, but I agree on a roll like this with the sauerkraut on top. It’s a little overpower overpowering. I think if I got it again, I would not get the sauerkraut put on. It’s a delicious snack. I think for sure. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. you know, to go on the go, to have, you know, as a snack. But as I think it’s worth um there they have outdoor seating when the weather’s nice and then they have a small restaurant inside where you can get a plate. It’s a little bit expensive, I think, for eight um burst and sauerkraut. I was like €22. Yeah, something like that. It was pretty expensive. But I think it’s well worth it. Yeah, it’s very good. It’s very good. Very historic. the original fast food. Uh this on the bread was uh 430 430. So this was not too bad. Um you know with with the sauerkraut, but it’s small. But 430 for this. Um but yeah, I definitely think it’s an experience. Something you got to see. If you go to Ragensburg, you got to try it cuz it really is delicious. It is delicious. Yeah, highly recommend it. All right. Good petit. Cake and coffee time. And we are at Cafe Princessin, which according to their sign outside is the oldest coffee house in Germany, opened in 1686. So, I guess I’ve come to the place I I need to be at, right? So, I have a a latte macchiato and I have a um a walnut marton cake and Betty has a pistachio. I mean, look at this. This looks so good. Betty has a pistachio cream cake and she has a cappuccino and this looks excellent. I can’t wait to dig in. So, cake and coffee time. Our favorite time of the day. I’m going to try this cake just so you know if it’s good or not. Oh man. Delicious. Really good. I’m going to try Betty’s. Oh man. Oh my lord. That pistachio cream is delicious. All right, so good place for cake and coffee. Cafe Princessin. dinner time and we are at Belinburg Cluster Brewery and it is the oldest um monastery brewery in the world and it has been around since 10 50. Can’t really see. I don’t have my glasses on very well, but uh so we’ve got dinner. They’ve we’ve got some really nice beer from the brewery. And I have schnitle. Uh this is um schnitle with beer sauce, gravy, some nice potatoes, and Betty has half of a shrine of haka. So half of a ham hock, if you will. Looks good. Looks nice and crispy on top. She has a canoodle and she has some sauerkraut. So, we’re about to dig in and uh we’ll let you know how it is when we’re finished. Okay, so Betty was so excited about our hot, she said it sounds so good when she cut into it. Said we had to record it. She wouldn’t do it, so she makes me do it, but Oh, listen to that. That is crispy. Oh my gosh. Wow. That is so That is so crispy, man. I love a little crispy crackling on my swanahawks. And dip that in there. Oh, that is good. That is good. I told you half a swan haka. This is like the perfect size for a one person. Sometimes a whole one is just too much. It’s just too too much food. But this is a good size. And man, that crispy skin, that’s unbelievable. And it’s so crispy and it pops up. You almost need like safety goggles when you eat it. That’s good stuff. All right, having a great meal. So, we just finished our meal here at the Velitin Burger Amome and it was fantastic. Um, my meal I had the schnitle with um potatoes. They were like sliced fried potatoes. Uh, it had horseradish and it had fried onions on top with a um like a beer gravy and it was great. And the the snitle had like a um a pretzel crusted. It was fried in like a pretzel crust. Delicious. Fantastic. Great meal. Betty’s meal, she had the the half of a schwina haka with um a cart canoodle with a potato dumpling and um sauerkraut. And Betty says that from now on, these are her words, that she always wants to order half a haka. She said it’s the perfect size. Um, perfect size for one person and it was cooked so well. It was perfectly crispy on the outside. The skin was so crispy and the meat was juicy. She said it was perfect size. Great meal. She loved it. The beer was great. So, so we were drinking the beer and like our favorite beer is Austin. Um, and we were drinking this beer. Haven’t had it before. And Betty said, “You know, this is this is like as good as Augustina.” And I was like, “Yeah, it is. It’s really good.” And then we saw a sign apparently this year in 2025 they won the award for Germany’s best helis. Is it 25? I think it was 25. Germany’s best helis or Germany’s best logger. So fantastic meal, good beer. Um price was I can’t remember the price exactly for two of us. For both of both of us I think it was with tip like 60. So um great meal. Highly suggest burger ammdome. It was fantastic meal. All right. Good evening in Regin. And um so our hotel recommended us to come to this restaurant. This is Meridiano and Italian restaurant not far from our hotel little little outside of the city center. But um highly recommend it. Has great reviews online as well. And so I have the macaroni. And look at this, man. It looks so good. Macaroni with um beef tips, cheese, and it has vegetables. It has some mushrooms, and it has some like some zucchini as well. And Betty has a fantastic looking pizza. Their pizzas um have really good reviews online, and they have a lot of seafood on the menu, too. So, if you’re a seafood lover, this would be a great place for you to come. Um so, it looks great. And we are ready to get started. So, let me try a little bite here. Wow, that is good. That is really good. Good napit from Reagan’s Borg. We were really looking forward to trying a famous dump noodle at Dump Noodle Ulie, one of Reagansborg’s most beloved spots for this traditional Bavarian treat. Unfortunately, it was closed when we stopped by. With only one day to explore the city’s amazing food, we just couldn’t try everything. I guess that means we’ve got the perfect reason to come back to Regin. And next time, we’re definitely not leaving without that dump. Reagansborg completely captivated us with its incredible food, breathtaking views, and timeless medieval beauty. Every moment here felt unforgettable. And it’s a city that truly deserves a spot on your travel list. If you love this journey, give it a like, subscribe for more adventures, and let us know in the comments what you thought or where you think we should head next. Until next time.

No German puts Sauerkraut in a Bratwurstroll. This is an offer only for – especially American – tourist. Any purist would eat his Bratwurstroll only with mustard. By the way: Ketchup is a no-go too.
Join us on a food tour of beautiful Regensburg. We visit the oldest Bratwurst stand in the world and the oldest Cafe in Germany 🇩🇪 We also enjoy what may be the best Schweinehaxe ever. Guten Appetit!
Weltenburger is a great beer. ❤
Omg that food looked so delicious! Those bratwurst looked perfect on the plate. I want to try that. The ham hock had the perfect crunch. Someone make that for me! Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations sir you are more german than I could ever be
Dampfknodel means steamed dumpling. A little further east, downstream Danube in Austria, they have Germknodel. A big dumpling filled with plum jam and topped with poppyseeds that swims in clarified butter.
I think 22 Euro for the brats is a bit steep. But I guess they do it cause they can. I dont remember what I paid, its more than 20 years ago I was there, but I DO remember that they came in 6,9 or 12! Not 8.
Wieder mal ein Spitzen-Video von euch!👍 Regensburg ist meine Lieblings-Stadt. Einige der Restaurants habe ich schon selbst besucht, aber nicht alle. Deshalb Danke für die guten, neuen Tips!!!
When I was there I came in bus and we parked on the bus parking at Woehrdstrasse on the island across the next bridge downstream. I can recommend that for those of you who drive. You are reasonable close to old town and you get a wonderful first view of the bridge, salt magazine and cathedral. Picturesque! And first stop is the Wurstkuche!
I never had time to go to the other side so also I learned something new today, I didn't know about the Spitalgarten. Must do next time. The buildings at the bridgehead were obviously former guardhouses. There is actually three islands in the middle of Donau. (I wonder why it's Danube in English…) Interesting is that the little river coming in from north, Regen, has given name to the town. Not the US president as the AI CC will have it…The bend west of the islands is also the northernmost point of the 2850km river! (1771miles). From Black Forest to Black Sea.
Wow, you both looked like you were in "Pure Bliss" the entire video, lol. It was fun watching you enjoy all of the food. I love saurkraut with my bratwurst. Sometimes Germans look at me funny when I ask for it, but I like it, lol. Spicy senf is a must!!! The Schweinhaxe looked so good, and you had my mouth watering. I have been through Regensburg many times, but havent spent much time there. I will certainly make it a point to stop in Regensburg on my next trip to Germany. It is always great seeing you both in the videos 🙂 Thank you for sharing your adventures as always!!! 🙂
Great food. I'm drooling. I have Nurnberger Brats in the fridge, but the haxe will be hard to find. Not even in our local US German Ratskeller! And American cakes with sugary icing just cant beat the German with fresh cream.
You are right, a bread roll snack propably never has the same quality as a good restaurant meal. In this case, I think there is too much Sauerkraut and an additional sausage could be helpful.
Entschuldigung bitte, das Älteste " Kaffeehaus" in Deutschland befindet sich nicht in Regensburg sondern in Bremen!!!
Actually, you don't eat the smoked and thick Regensburger-sausages, which are cooked and smoked and used to create a specific local salad or served in brine, but the small roast sausages from Nuremberg which are typically served in a roll or with Sauerkraut.
Well, Weltenburger Kloster is actually not from Regensburg itself, but from the village of Weltenburg in Kelheim about 30 km from Regensburg. Both places, Kelheim and Regensburg, I called home for a very long time of my life.
I have no idea what happens to the pork knuckles when you grill them, but the fat and juices that collect in the grill pan have a fantastic flavor. I collect it and freeze it; it can be used to add flavor to any bland sauce. That's almost the only reason I regularly buy pork knuckles now. Of course, they also taste good cold, even sliced thinly on a roll.
Yummie!
The Dampfnudel Uli doesn‘t exist any more, it was closed three years ago after 46 years of business. Meanwhile there is a new bar in these rooms, and it is called Uli, as a homage to the former owner. But it is now opened in the evening and it‘s more a bar with a few meals, but Dampfnudeln / dumplings are no more the main food you can get there.
Fantastic! The food looked awesome and love those historic breweries. So amazing. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video.
We had Dampfnüdel Uli when we were last in Regensburg in 2013. We were looking to have it again in December but we found out that Uli sold it after 46 years and now it's a bar and restaurant. I couldn't see any Dampfnüdel on the menu. 😢
Worth the Trip
Wunderbar 😊
You know, we have a saying in Germany that goes "Essen ist der Sex des Alters". I am not sure about that. I'm 53 and still are desperately waiting for it to take an effect on me. But when I am watching you, at 10:51 for example, I have good hopes for the future. 😁😂🤣
Just kidding. Enjoy your meal! Guten Appetit!
Regensburg is such a gem — that Wurstkuchl view with beer in hand is basically peak Bavarian bliss 😍🍺
The beer and food in Regensburg are very good and also particularly healthy .Yes, unfortunately, prices in Germany have risen extremely sharply thanks to a broken and corrupt government in Germany. I wouldn't say it if it weren't true.
Love your video’s and your food tours. Regensburg is one of our favorite. Only one problem is their sausage. I swear Bob Evans must have stolen the recipe. 😂😂
Every hospital should have a brewery.
At least you had no Regen in Regensburg.
☝️🤓😜
Btw… sometimes I can't watch your videos when I'm hungry… 🙈
