Pogo and handles go to Iceland. And first up is getting some food to eat on the airplane in a little bit. Food. Yes. Back in glorious September 2017 and I was a very young Jeff and had my first opportunity to visit ever so sunny Iceland. So I spoke with Ibis Camelac Kitsbow and Cali and got the support together to do a video. Not often you get a cool opportunity like that. So we jumped on it. We’re going right. I had been working with Runar, an Icelandic local and a dealer for Ibis bikes for quite a few years, and I’d even met him a couple times at industry events. Always a socialite, Runar agreed to help me with the logistics of making a video, and therefore turning my inaugural Iceland visit into a very fun tax write-off. Also, back in 2017, and it was still the early days of the internet, I was in the throws of making old school style shreddit videos. I’ll link to my original Icelandic riding video in the corner of the screen and in the description down below. It was tons of fun to make that video and it turned out pretty good for what it is, but it’s quite different than a video like this. Fast forward to present day 2025 and being a supportive partner, I invited myself along on Savannah’s trip to Iceland. We had some requests for more content with pogo and handles. And so today, we’ll make that happen. We’re heading out to Iceland. Savannah’s got a really cool retreat she’s doing in a week or two. And before then, we have a few days to play. So, let’s go do something a little bit different by riding bikes. We will meet again someplace else. Goodbye. Let’s go. If you want to explore the fourth most expensive country in the world, going during the offseason is a bit of a Black Friday sale. It’s like we’re in Kansas. Now, when I travel, I love meeting locals and sharing an experience with them, i.e. going for a bike ride. I reached out to Icelandic Bike Company, LA. These guys had asked me if I would test their Elia crosscountry light trail bike here on my channel. I asked if instead of riding the bike in America, if I could meet with them and ride the bike on their home turf. Well, they agreed. Ready, aim, fire. We had an Icelandic connection. Our first stop is going to be to go visit the guys at Laos in downtown Raiky. We’re here. Time to summon the social energy and go meet a bunch of folks. And we have what, 3 hours of sleep since yesterday? Yeah. That’ll be great. That’s what it’s all about, travel. Are you excited to ride today? I am slightly nervous. Do you think it’s going to be a giant sweaty mess? I hope so because I’m cold. Let me uh show you my trick for giant sweaty messes of bike rides. When it’s super snowy like this, often times it’s not actually that cold. Today it’s just 0 degrees C, 32 Fahrenheit. And we’re going to be working so hard to pedal through this snow. There’s going to be tons of resistance, not much air cooling, and I expect to be sweating my tail off. So, I’m bringing water. And to make this water more effective, I’m bringing some Element. I’ve been fortunate enough to partner if I find friends over at Element, spelled LNT, way back in the day. And they make a very simple electrolyte supplement, just sodium, potassium, magnesium. And then a big reason for why I’m drinking this, a big reason for why I’m drinking this is because it’s so darn tasty. It makes rides like this for an hour, maybe two, in the cold, more fun when you’ve got a delicious little tasty thing in your water bottle. For a limited time now, Element’s sending a free sample pack of their top four drink mix flavors with any purchase from the link in my description down below. That link is drink element element.com/jffjf. Today we’re drinking raspberry salt. Reminds me of glorious summer rides back home while we’re here adventuring in Iceland. All right, let’s make up a bottle and then we’ll hit the trails and who knows what’s going to happen then. All right, there we go. M. That’s yummy. Stay salty, everyone. That’s really yummy. Say hello to these guys. We don’t have to be cameras in the face and all. Let’s go say hello. I hear folks upstairs. Hello. Hey. Hi. How is everyone doing? Good. I’m Jeff. Hey, Jeff. Becker. Better. Nice to meet you. This is Savannah. Sorry to interrupt lunch. I’m Jeff. Hi. Pete. Nice to meet you, Pete. Hi. I’m Jeff. I’m Hi. Hi. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Oh my goodness. The huge LA showroom. Extremely huge. Oh, it’s gorgeous though. I like it. The biggest love showroom in the world. Yeah. So in Virginia there’s nothing consumer facing. Uh not yet. We’re working on it. We can open don’t know the exact date but they’re working on Cool. And more employees in the states than in Iceland. Yes. Correct. So around 15 in the States and like nine here. Cool. Cool. And that was fascinating hearing that 90% of the sales are the US market currently. Yeah. Wow. Right. That’s super cool. Yeah. Blau is probably best known for their first ever product, that crazy leaf sprung equipped gravel bike fork. They then branched out to making gravel bikes and eventually a mountain bike called the Elia that we’d be riding on this trip here. That’s the early prototype Ellia. Yep. Cool. That’s pretty cool. Original Lao prototype fork. Oh, it is from a supermarket bike. I see. Oh, it’s just welded right to a steel crown. That’s hilarious. Wow. Cool. Well, thank you so much. We’ll see you guys tomorrow. Bye, guys. Bye. We walked through downtown Raikyic. Having been there before, I felt a bit like I could be a tour guide, though I had no idea what I was talking about. We spent the night at Goodways out of town with a goal of meeting Icelandic horses and enjoying some geothermal rivers. We did both. Demonstration. We arrived at the ride a bit late. Sorry about that guys, but very excited for a true Icelandic mountain bike ride. Hello everyone. Hello everyone. Hello everybody. I might put this on you to begin with and move this from person to person. Yeah. Was Run teaching you? Yeah. How was Run? We were Runar’s good. He stopped riding pedal bikes. He rides ebikes a little bit, but he’s kind of burnt out from too much racing. Yeah. Yeah. Look at this. Fresh electrolytes from Element in our life water bottle. Thank you. It’s going to make you faster. We’re going to ride at Burger and Antoine and we’d also be joined with our sponsored racer, local legend Brekie. Way less than I do, though. We had a tough choice for where exactly to ride. The more up we go, the more down we get to go. That’s true. So, I’m wondering if we should focus more on the sandstone mountain or like in the woods on some muddy. I feel like sandstone mountain sounds more epic than muddy woods. Yeah, probably. Cuz all I have at home are muddy woods. Yeah, right. Breie looked fresh off the drum as he was rocking an arrow helmet as well as both an inverted stem and handlebar. Likely great choices for local riding needs, but the opposite of Northwest fashion. That helmet looks so fast. Brekie, maybe next year he’ll have a visor, a hip, and a dad bod. Who knows? Do you ride all winter? Yeah. Cool. Oh man, chunky. Oh no. If your hands weren’t down at your ankles there, it’ be a little easier. A little bit. The bike’s pretty darn comfortable for this considering considering what it is. We took a quick ride down the local downhill course, a spot where they hold races of about a minute duration. And we have uh downhill races here. Oh, cool. But it’s really short down track. It’s like Yeah. under 1 minute. Oh, jeez. Kind of a cool spot to get jibby here. Jibby upon. Oh, that was terrible. What’s an amateur? It’s kind of muddy, guys. It is. Is that going to hurt the trail? No. Oh, no. It’s not that muddy. Okay. Super sun right in the eyes. Oh. Ah. Can we do something neat? I thought that might be fun to mess around on. Really cool. I wish I could do something neater. I don’t think anyone has started a town course like that before. Cool. Oh, it’s beautiful today. So, Breie, born and raised on bikes here in Whoa. Oh, I don’t know the name of this trail network. Oh my gosh, it’s slippery. The frozen mud was hard for me to predict. And between the new bike, the jet lag, and the challenging conditions, I was feeling a bit out of my LMNT. Pun fully intended. This man might walk that. Got some horse frost. And now you’re going to get mud on y’all on the lens. Whoa. Jeff has before been like, “Oh, I wonder what the ride is like for you.” And through frozen lava mud, he’s going to be like, “Wow, slow and boring. It’s weird because it’s frozen, but it’s also slippery. It’s also weird to get off a plane and ride somewhere you’ve never been in textures you’ve never ridden on a bike you’ve never ridden when you are not a professional biker. So I don’t know. Oh, there’s a nice double. Recky is a really good rider. We had a great time playing around with wheelies. I wish we would have had more time to be able to ride about wait for our next trip. I’m not sure. I’m Maybe it holds, but Yeah. Yeah, probably. Yeah, if you commit to it, it’ll work. Yeah. Do you want to go first this time? Yeah, I’ll have fun. You, too. Thanks. So muddy. I got a mud mustache. Oh, there’s a drop right here. Yeah, we have few more. Cool. This is a committ. Nice. Which way? To the right. Yeah, we go here. Oh, nice. Get it. Now we are going fast. By we I mean I had about 10 seconds of a sprint in me. Who am I? The exact hole in the ground I climbed into back in 2017. Ah firing for the traction. Ah you have been here. This was in the last video. I go down here. Yeah. Oh, I see them. These testosterone powered thigh muscled men. This is the thing I climb into in the video. Oh. Looking to hold the folk. Oh, they’re down there. Are you going to do it again? I don’t think so. So, we’re going to go to Homeik. Okay. For Sunday. Yeah. Nice. Savannah wants to see the witchcraft museum. Yeah. That’s totally cool. Yeah. Yeah. Just a quail. Snow. Yeah. Bright white. This is more single tracky. It’s muddy, but it’s super rocky. Like, it’s just tiny rocks forming a surface. We should probably take a look. We should probably take a look. It was a crater. Yeah. And we peaked into the same crater I had seen back in the day. Cool. Yep. Yeah. It’s not that crazy looking. It’s a circle. Yeah. Soft dirt. I pull back to wheelie and the bike just goes deeper in the ground. Yeah. Easy downhill. I’ve never ridden the the uh in lava before. Lava is It’s fine. But then we had a sandstone mountain to climb. As the sun got lower, the light became ethereal and the crazy riding surfaces kept us very warm. The bumpiness I am adjusting to it. It’s uh I would say I like it more when I don’t do that. Now we’re on ash. This is cool. Is this ash or sand? Kind of a mixture. Both. A mixture. Cool. Yeah. Yeah. It’s kind of tricky now. The ground is like frozen, not frozen. Wheels keep sinking down or not. This is the beautiful light. It’s quite a variety of surfaces. Yeah. Wow. Look at all of this awesome landscape and rockcape and lava scape. I need to ride more bikes. Justin Burger has informed me that this is not easy riding. So, uh, that made me feel better. Nice burger. How long can I keep up for? I bet less than 15 seconds. Oh, on the grass. Grass track. And Burger’s pulled away already. As we got to the base of Sandstone Mountain, Burger hit us with a climb challenge. We’re all expected to walk up this. Okay, great. Yeah. See how far you get. I now even more love how light this bike is. True. Since it’s going to go on my back. Okay. 16 fat bike world champion Burger Benedict rode up this hill. Definitely not going to happen now. Why not? And traction or strength? Not as fit. And I had also way easier gearing. Yeah, the gear 26. Oh, he’s clipped in. The clips help a lot. High posting though. Well, cuz you can pedal through bumps without getting your foot slipping. You got to put your foot down like that. Oh yeah, it gets steep. I see what you mean. Media does not convey just how wet and slick this sandstone really was. I chose to end my climb before slipping out and whacking myself in the family jewels. Oh yeah. Oh, come on. traction. Okay, I’m tired. I take a break. Nice. Good job. That’s exhausting. It is. How do you do it from here? Savannah chose to rock her bike. Oh my god. Well, this is what it’s like to hike a bike. This bike is so light. Nope. More grippy in the summertime. Yeah, it’s super slippery. If it wasn’t wet. Yeah. Be a lot better. Yeah. It’s like almost very grippy. Yeah, exactly. Until it’s not. Good job, handles. Yeah, nice burger. And then I saw it. The sketchy send. Look at that jump. Folks are gapping that little step down. From a rock to a rock wasn’t really all that huge, but I had never ridden an Ellia a day before this and it was drastically different feeling from all the bikes I ride at home. making things more sketchy, there was a significant crosswind coming in. It was enough wind that I could see it blowing this lightweight bike sideways. Should that happen and we’d see a flesh upon cheese grater reenactment with this sandstone. It might work and I’d feel like a real idiot flying home with the cast on. After a test run of hopping into the landing, my first time ever bunny hopping in IA, I decided to park my common sense. That’s a lot of wind. How windy is it? Your hair’s blowing. Uh, I don’t want to go to the hospital today. So, yeah, it’s not it’s not even a big deal. It’s like waist high. Probably fine. I just don’t want to get blown off. How’s the wind, Savannah? Less. All right. You good, Anton? I think this will work. Full command. Oh my god. Pardon my hesitation, guys. I just don’t want to make a dumb choice. That worked out just fine. That was perfect. I got a slow-mo. Oh, cool. Thanks. That was fun. Yeah. See, like this wind could be a problem, but Yeah, it’s more now than just when you hit it. Yeah. Oh, cool. Did you get a shot? Oh, look. Oh, sweet. You got it. So like I I see it normally. We notice how dark it’s getting thinking about heading down. It’s getting close to 6:00. So yeah, we should head down. With the top of the mountain still another 20 minutes away and darkness likely approaching in half that time, we decided to begin our descent. I hate this stupid hard stuff. I flailed my way down the loose lava rock and somehow managed to delete all my footage. Savannah, however, had no such digital mistakes. Let’s make the call and be safe. Yeah, let’s get rally. We got to get back to the cars before it starts snowing again. Yeah, I think it was a good call to go turn back down. Yeah, this ride was a blast. It was very much a typical Icelandic fall ride. Freezing temperatures, prolonged beautiful sunset, and a few awesome folks living it up as best they could. If this is Iceland, count us in. Nice. That was good. Oh my god. Watch out, Anon. I feel like we’re parked over here. Yeah, correct. So, should we take this trail? As of late, Savannah has been getting in touch with her witch side. I asked if this meant if she’d have a broom and could sweep my house, but alas, that was met with a steely dagger. Partial to brooms that did not actually exist in ice. Brooms. Brooms. Oh, yeah. The broom is cool. Yeah, but it didn’t exist. Yeah, which is so I’d better be careful lest I end up boiling in a cauldron one day. Savannah would soon be attending a retreat for which is to be the following week. But this week here, prior to spells and black cats, would be a fun trip for us to explore bits of the island together. Iceland is only a 6 and 1/2 hour flight from SeaTac and airfare is quite reasonable. In fact, it’s probably the last reasonably priced thing visitors will experience as prices in Iceland are about as extraordinary as the northern lights. Our first touristic experience was the geothermal river that I had seen but not sampled 8 years back. This trip, we made sure to immerse ourselves in the drink. Savannah had found a museum of Icelandic witchcraft and sorcery located not that far from the Arctic Circle up in northwestern Iceland. On the way north, we would stop along the Snufflness Peninsula to explore what websites would call a true Iceland. Good work, Handles. You sure are. Forgot my feathers. But first, still within striking distance of Raiky Vic, the capital, and we hit a few must do tourist items. We just enjoyed watching the geyser go off. It was beautiful. Everyone was standing there with their phones glued to their faces except for us. We got our 360 cam erected northwards to the sun. Then we saw an incredible river the name of which I cannot remember. I snapped this photo which is also snapped approximately every 28 seconds by the thousands of tourists who visit daily. We got to see thing, a critical spot in Icelandic history as well as in geology. This is where beginning in the year 930, Icelandic leaders would meet to form the world’s first ever parliament. The history of Iceland has really captured my interest. In this day and age, we are taught to be very sensitive to First Nation peoples, and that’s very real. But Iceland’s a little bit different. There are no native First Nation folks. Instead, the first people to ever settle here beginning in the year 874 are still here. Early settler populations were estimated to be as large as 24,000. That’s massive, especially when you consider that today Iceland only has a population of 390,000. With a handful of days to explore, we decided to stumble around the Snufflness Peninsula before continuing north. And like Hulmer, we got to enjoy this band playing a show in a closed down marina. We awoke to the north wind battering us at a gorgeous lighthouse and began our touristic drive. This is miserable. Okay, I’m excited because I saw on Google Maps an old broken down boat aboard the sand crashed to shore. And I think we’re there. One of my favorite parts of the whole trip was climbing on an abandoned fishing vessel. This is pretty cool. Kind of creepy. Oh, there is a man climbing aboard the boat. In real life, it was like a tetanusinfested playground for grown-ups. Turns out it had sank nearby after it had already broken down. The wooden boat was built recently in only 1967. But after seeing fishing boats like this my entire life, being able to see the bunks in the captain’s helm up close was super fun. And no, I am not considering a career change. Man, still a lot of copper on here. If this thing had crashed aboard any of the beaches in America, the copper would be long gone. Oh, be turned to methamphetamines by now. This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen on the trip so far. Mhm. Being able to explore around this without like getting in the midst of anyone’s personal business is pretty cool. Yeah. And why didn’t anyone turn it into an Airbnb? Yes. Important questions. We probably could. Should we create a fake listing? We might get found out. Yeah, the authorities might not. We continued our way, amazed at the waterfalls, the beautiful light dusting of snow contrasted by this dark blue ocean, and by the blue-eyed Icelandic ponies. Hello. A do you like grass? I don’t want Hey, your beautiful blue eyes. Oh, your friend wants grass, too, though. Can you both have grass? Savannah’s favorite part was the seals, which was cute, but simply reminded me of living alongside the harbor back in Santa Cruz for so many years. We had wanted to see puffins, but we were about a month late due to their migratory patterns. We made our way north, driving through both the night and a very heavy snow. The witchcraft museum was not at all what I expected it to be, and that’s not a bad thing. third world pipe coming out of the ground thing. Wow. No less than six pipes coming out of this giant metal thing. Yeah, this is warm. This is very warm to the touch. First, we got to enjoy a restored earth and rock home, which was conveniently located alongside a gorgeous geothermal hot. Oh, wow. That is a whopper. Wonder if they’d have their fire in between the rocks so they could then cook things. Lots of wool. Getting into the witchcraft. Well, the early settlers were pagans, celebrating various Norse gods. When the island fell to full Norwegian control at the end of the 1200s, Christianity became the official religion. Though early laws allowed for the practicing of paganism within private quarters. However, the church would eventually outlaw paganism and those found practicing it could be convicted of witchcraft. Quite interesting, most people executed for committing witchcraft were actually male. With even more snow forecasted, we headed back down to Raikyic where the LA guys were prepping some Elas with studded snow tires. I’ve ridden a lot of bikes, but I’ve never ridden studded snow tires. This was definitely going to be an experience. We have been surprised with 6 in of fresh snow. Ooh, it’s a solid amount of snow. It’s heavy. We got the car warm warming up. We’re going to try to scoop some off so we can drive. Heavy wet snow. It reminds me of back home. I don’t know how this is going to work on the light. Good morning. Good morning. How are you? Good. How are you? Yeah, I’m all right. Yeah, we slept way better last night. Oh, that’s good. Yes. Yes, we’re here. Sweet. Would you normally ride if it was this snowy in Iceland? I told the camera now. If it was a fat bike mission. Oh, okay. Yeah. Probably not on uh Yeah. 29 in. They’re just spikes. Yeah. Just Yeah. Oh, spikes. They’re very subtle. Yeah, they’re very I thought they’d be huge. Uh, no. And it’s, you know, maybe on on an ebike would you could have huge studs, but uh, yeah, normal bike I don’t think your thighs are strong enough. Oh, cuz the resistance or the weight? Yeah, the resistance. Yeah. Okay. Any questions? No. Okay. Never thought I’d be able to wheelie in the snow. I thought there was no way we would ride bikes today. Right. Even if we only ride for an hour. Oh, I just skidded. Even if we only ride for an hour, this is still like totally new for me. All right. Yeah. Yonder. After our touristic times, I was again itching to get back on a bike. But with Raikyic receiving more snow than ever recorded in the month of October, we had over a fresh foot of the white stuff our hikes. Riding in fresh snow is always easier than staging cold stuff. And the studded tires will definitely help. But still, it’s hard to ride in snow. Evictus three. At first, I wasn’t sure if he would be able to ride at all. Oh, he dropped me. That was quick. Oh my god, nicely done. Better. Tripoding around with foot tabs and tipovers galore. We felt like newborn horses struggling to stand up as God intended. Oh, wow. I’m going. I made it. Yeah, you can do it. It’s like mud but 10 times harder. There we go. I coasted for a moment. Oh yeah. There we go. This is biking. There we go. Oh my Oh my god. Goodness. Things got steeper. This meant they got much scarier. I felt a bit like a puppy playing with Legos. We knew it should be fun, but getting the pieces together as typically intended was not going to happen. Instead, we had little windows of shredding. The format that ended up working best was to go down a short trail with a mix of equal parts riding, crashing, and walking. We’d then return to the top for a second attempt, and then we could finally keep our balance and speed much better. Was it epic? Probably not. Was it an experience I’ll never forget? Exactly. Cuz it looks scary. No, you got it. This is the most radible snow I’ve been in that’s this deep with these tires. We’re not in Bellingham anymore, Toto. Still not sure who Toto is. Oh my god, this is terrifying. Oh god. Oh no, I didn’t get it. It’s okay. That was saucer ride. Ready to die. I thought I could pull into Oh, no front brake needed. Good lions burger. Yep. Burger knows how to ride in the snow. Oh no. Pedal strike. Pedal strike. That’s okay. Oh no. You okay? Oh no. Oh, dude. Get it on camera. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Nice burger. Sweet. And we’ll go the real way. Yeah. Nice. Awesome. That was fun. That was cool. That’s a good run. Good job, Anton. Oh my god, I did it. Holy crap. Oh, I was so not confident about that. And then sailing around this. Okay. Okay. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it. This is real snow. Oh yeah. I thought it didn’t snow in Iceland, but when it when it does, it snows. When it does, it really does. See, I always heard they named it Iceland cuz it was so nice compared to Greenland. And there was a trick. I feel like I’ve been tricked by the trick. Oh, yeah, definitely. Thank you all for joining us on our snow ride. If you snow ride at home, let us know where you are, how much snow you get, what kind of bike you use and tires, what’s your setup. If you’ve never snow ridden, let me know if you enjoyed learning about snow riding and seeing us flounder our way through the fluffy white. All right, thank you everyone. Thanks to Element for sponsoring this video. I have a link down below. Get you that sample pack of their top flavors with any purchase. And with that, we’re going to go board our airplane and I’m going to go back to America. Savannah’s going to go fire dancing. All right, peace and wheelies, everyone.

This channel needs more SavannahCam and SavannahCommentary.
Did you just leave poor Savannah to ride alone? That's not cool. Maybe next time, be a little more considerate?

My girlfriend and I spent a week on Iceland in August 2019; totally amazing place.
We did 2 days of mountain biking with ”IceBikes” as our guides. Such a unique and rad experience. 🤘
