Massive protests swept through the German town of Giessen as thousands of demonstrators blocked roads, motorways, and key access routes to stop the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) from launching its new youth organization, “Generation Germany.” The event—meant to replace the disbanded Young Alternative (JA), previously labeled extremist—was heavily delayed as top AfD figures, including Jean-Pascal Hohm, Tino Chrupalla, and Alice Weidel, struggled to reach the venue.
Police used water cannons to disperse blockades, reported stone-throwing incidents, and confirmed one officer was injured as tensions escalated. Protesters chanted anti-fascist slogans as authorities prepared for an estimated 50,000 participants across dozens of rallies and vigils.
