Went on a 2 night riding adventure at Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway in Texas. Really awesome rails to trails pathway that stretches from downtown Mineral Wells to just northwest of Weatherford.
We camped overnight at the state park. Good campsites with water and close to bathrooms and showers. There is a spur trail that connects the state park to the main trailway. The spur has semi-steep switch backs – tons of fun going down and even coming back up. Gives you a chance to test out your low gears without wiping you out.
From the state park to Weatherford was a 32 mile round trip, we did it in about 2.5 hours. The trail from the state park to downtown Mineral Wells was 12 miles round trip and it only took us about an hour. The trail is small packed gravel, very well maintained. Overall a nice relaxing ride.
We stopped off in downtown Mineral Wells to have dinner. The sidewalks easily accommodate bikes and we never felt in danger of being hit by a car, even at night.
Overall this was a great trip. The state park was fun with good campsites and facilities. The trail was excellent with well maintained bridges along the entire route.
Highly recommend you check it out next time you’re in North Texas.
