Day 259. 62km (92,866kms 8 yrs)
Relaxed and well-fed after a very comfy stay with Marie I was on my way late morning towards Nové Město na Moravě where I would rejoin the eurovelo.
Here first though I re-met with Marie and friend Jana for a final chat and goodbye.
The eurovelo climbs steeply here up past chairlifts and is unsealed for a few kilometres through fields until rejoining a country road through a string of villages, gradually descending now. The section around Polnička was especially beautiful through the forest, on a slippery boardwalk and rough stony path. Despite the beauty, I turned off the eurovelo about 20kms before Chotěboř to make some fast kilometres before sunset. Out of the forest a headwind slowed me, and roadworks very nearly halted me, but I was allowed through and made it a little after sunset. A couple more kilometres into the forest on the other side of town, it was almost dark by the time I found a spot I was satisfied with, back from the track and well away from the last cottage.
It was only 5:30pm but totally dark by the time I climbed into the tent. These days I have plenty of time for editing vlogs and blogging, just not enough time for riding 60+kms 😆

It’s another beautiful autumn day in the Czech Republic. Very lovely and cozy stay with Marie. I’m exceptionally wellfed. Uh Marie taught herself English in her 40s, which is very impressive. and she travels as well whenever family commitments allow. And hopefully I’m going to run into her in about 15 km in the next town where she’s meeting a friend. [Music] blue sky. It’s on for another nice day. success. I’ve met up with my friend Marie and her friend Jana. Um Marie, thank you so much for inviting me to your house last night. Uh you are welcome and I’m happy I could meet you. I’m happy uh one uh of my friend sent you to my place. Yes. And it was really nice coincidence. Yes. And uh I love this type of people like uh you are health really really and for me it’s great to host you. Thank you. It was great for me. I’m very grateful because it was quite a wet night. So I’m happy to not be in a tent and lovely to meet you both. Thank you so much. This isn’t too different from my scratch map. Just color in most of Asia, take out South Africa and Mosamb beek and yeah, that’s pretty much my scratch map. Back on the Eurovvel route here. It’s mostly downhill, which is why I don’t mind the loose surface, but this is pretty steep here. Woohoo. Okay, for lunch today, Maria has packed me off with this enormous box full. Um, I’m sheltered from the wind here next to these rental bikes in a very lovely park. I’m about halfway. Um, still got about 30 km to go with about 3 hours of daylight to do it. So, crack on quickly. Oh, what is this now? lucky to be let through there. I don’t even know. There’s no nearby roads. I don’t know where I would have gone. And as you can see, the sun’s getting pretty low. So, I’m almost out of time as it is. Cheers. A little bit later than I would have liked, but it was it was a very full uh day. Started a bit late, but not ideal to be pitching the tent after dark. This is the forest I was aiming at, though, so I’m glad to have made it this far. And I had the light of the moon to pitch the tent. So all’s well that ends well hopefully. Cheers. And a lovely drop of rosé as well. Sorry. How did you get in here? Out. Out. Been asked about my sleeping bag. Actually, I use two. I have this very thin one here which is rated to 15° according to its compression sack. And then I have this bigger outer one which I’ve had since school. I used for Duke Venber awards 30 something years ago. Uh this one doesn’t have a drawstring but this in this smaller inside one does. So if I tighten the drawstring here. So I just get a little mouth hole. And then if I just tuck a bit of this outside one in here, then I can breathe and I’m good to about 0 degrees, generally speaking. Uh, so good night.

Good luck 🏅👍
I also used this 2-Layer sleeping system and really like it because I have the perfect equipment for every temp range. I'm using a 560gr down sleeping bag and a blanket, which I can attach to the mattress if needed. Limit for that combination is -12 to -15°C
the man beside me saw a u.f.o from kidderminster library in 1971 he said it was massive,i dont know his name and he has not told any one only me he does go round on a bike,Chris

What a lovely day it ended up for you. Blue skies are always a welcoming sight. You definitely look cozy in your sleeping bags. 😊
Excellent ending 😃!
I am a bit of a softie so I admire you for touring early spring and late Autumn. I think I would have a sleep bag system a notch or two up from yours but you are still travelling and I am sat at home. More power to you.
Maria cannot stop speaking English now 😂. I have just ordered a sleeping bag for walking in Portugal at the end of January. Rated for a Comfort of 3 degrees. My fifth sleeping bag covering all temperatures 😂
