Red Bull Ride & Style 2012 San Francisco:
After a highly successful inaugural year in 2011, Red Bull hosted the second Ride + Style at San Francisco’s Justin Plaza. In a collision of fixed gear biking and urban art, Ride + Style features fixed gear riders facing off in both track and freestyle competitions, with the obstacles designed and decorated by local San Francisco artists.

[Music] Red Bull Riders In Style is an event that makes track riding fre style riding and artists from all over the country fix gear bicycle is a lot different than a regular bicycle normally a regular bicycle has a coasting mechanism with it but on a fixed gear it’s always continual so either it’s going always backwards always forward never [Music] stopping we’re here in San Francisco today at Justin Herman Plaza and I’m one of the four artists who collaborated on the course I have my fingerprint Style at it’s like my blue shapes that you see in the background I really wanted to use the flow of the ramp I’m uh really excited to see the riters ride my ramps and add their own artwork to it you know like if they skit out on it’s a big black line to me that’s that’s cool you know like that’s what it was intended for the concept behind this particular work um is based on Mexican folk Arts um and these in particular particular reference wakan floral embroidery print the artwork is great I can’t thank the artists enough everything looks super inspired and original I’m here to uh defend my title from winning it last year Addison Z is the five-time rainning Champ for the mini vone he’s 20 he’s fast he’s a BMX racer he’s the one I’m worried about [Music] some of the hardest parts about it are of course the big turn we’ve got and then the box jump on the back straight I’ve been racing BMX for about 9 years now I just got into fixed gear racing or track racing within the past year uh a you guys got in front of me off the start and I knew I just had to follow him until I saw my opening so I ended up uh getting a nice move in the last turn and end up coming out [Music] first on a fixed gear bike for BMX style tricks it’s way different way harder you actually have to learn pedal timing you have to learn how to move the bike and how to safely exit the bike if you get messed up or caught up in something the sport has progressed a lot more and the Ram’s a lot bigger a lot more serious as you can [Music] [Applause] see I’ve seen it come so far in the Last 5 [Applause] Years man I cannot believe it like I I honestly thought Matt Ray has had it again like I’m just happy that you know hard work and dedication and just good writing paid off [Applause] [Music]

  1. it's about what you want to do, not what is better. freestyle is about doing your own thing with your own style. its why people do it

  2. can anyone point me in the direction of a good starter fixed gear bike that can be ordered online? i have looked at big shot bikes and republic fixies but all the riviews say the parts are crap.

  3. I love bicycles and embrace all kinds of riding. I have two mountain bikes one road bike, one BMX and one track bike. And no doubt the best trick on a track bike is going fast!

  4. I like it but it's just pointless. Isn't that why the free wheel was invented…. It just looks daft and like there going to come off every time they land. Cool for the flatland tricks though they look impressive.
