I’ve been obsessing over an upgrade for my Fuji Jari that I’ve upgraded with new drivetrain and wheels, and I just can’t make a decision.
I think I finally settled on a Shafer, but I admit I’m buying a bike for the terrain I want to ride rather than the terrain I have to ride. So do I really need the new 3.0? Probably not, but it wouldn’t be a complete waste.
Chinese carbon pros:
I can transfer the expensive bits from my Jari and have a new bike for around $1000, and return my Jari to stock to sell.
Cons:
It’s Chinese carbon and I have no idea if I can get it without getting hit with tariffs. It seems I can, but if not that doubles the price and it’s no longer cheap.
Shafer 3.0 pros:
Complete new bike so n+1. I can keep the Jari and ride it more like an endurance road bike since it’s got a 2x di2 drive train. I don’t currently have a working road bike so that’s an attractive idea because most group rides around here are road rides.
Cons: Price ($4500 for the build I want) and more tire clearance than I really need, but not sure that’s a huge con.
What would you do?
