We spent two days at Carcassonne in France, exploring the medieval village and the new town area. The medieval village is spectacular. There’s lots to see and do inside the walled village.
We couldn’t book the aire so booked the adjacent campsite. This is ideally located, just a short cycle from Carcassonne itself. #carcassonne #france #campervan #mcnaughtsontour #fiat #ducato #mirider #dji #osmoaction #insta360x3 #touring

Hello, it’s Ian and Wendy from McNaut on Tour. We’re continuing our tour south. Um, and we’re stopping at Carcasson for a couple of nights. We weren’t able to book the air, so we decided to book the adjacent campsite. Um, it is in an ideal location to go into the medieval village. Um, it’s very, very close by, just down by the river. Wendy booked in and then we took the short drive round to our pitch. This is quite a large site. Um most of the pitches are surrounded by trees. So it is quite well shaded. Um this was actually quite welcome in the heat was absolutely roasting at 37° when we were here. We got settled in in the pitch, figured out that the way we wanted to locate the van and got set up. We took a a cycle into Carcass on to the medieval village itself. Um it’s been a while since Lola has been on Wendy’s bike, so she wasn’t the most settled in this trip, but we’re hoping that improves as we continue. It’s an easy cycle. There’s a track around the campsite perimeter and then it continues down by the river. Um and it takes you into directly into the medieval village. It’s probably about a 10 minute cycle to get into the village and maybe another few minutes up the hill actually to the really nicest part of all the historic buildings. It took us a while to find somewhere suitable to to lock up the bikes. There was nothing really like a designated area. There are car parks, but nothing specific for bikes. And then we just took a walk around the inside the walls of the medieval village. There’s lots and lots to see. There’s plenty of bars and restaurants if you want a break as well, but there’s there’s really tons to see. So, we took a good look around. Actually reminded me of Monty Michelle. Not quite the same, but it’s a kind of similar theme with the with the walled city. Um, and can a lot of the the infrastructure inside those walls. You can pay to walk the walls, you know, like like high up um at the top of the wall, but we chose not to do that cuz dogs are not allowed. On the second night, we cycled back into the town. But in this time, as we approached the old bridge, we took a left and went over that bridge into the more more modern part of the town. So, it’s a typical town. Lots of bars, shops, restaurants, and all that. There’s a very large square. Um, so we stopped there. Um, this part of the town is not so friendly for bikes, so the roads are pretty busy here. Um, so we ended up actually just getting off the bikes and pushing them up into the main square. Um, really just took a rest there, had some dinner, um, and then headed back. As we came back over the old bridge, we got a really good view of the medieval village and high up in the hill. So, that kind of set the night off. That’s it for this video. We hope you enjoyed it.
