CAMPING ‘MUNICIPAL DE MONTECH’, was our final ‘recce’ campsite on our trip in June, whilst checking out potential campsites for out longer trip in August.
We chose this site to visit due to it’s location on the North/South route from the Pyrenees back up through France to the Northern Ferry ports.
The campsite is in a bustling town, with local markets and all the amenities you could need, including being on a lovely section of the ‘Garonne’ Canal, well worth a cycle or a walk, and easily reached from the campsite.
With huge pitches, a pool and affordable prices, it’s a perfect overnighter, or a longer stay site.

[Music] Okay, we’re just coming up to our next campsite now. It is another municipal campsite just down here. Access Camping Municipal. That looks about right. Bernard the trees too. It’s going to hit the van. We’ll give the tree a miss if we go this way. Yeah, we’ve gone the wrong side of the road to miss the tree. Right, let’s go and have a look at this one. So, we’ve picked this one because it’s pretty much straight north up from the the Pyrenees up through Tulus and this is kind of the almost the first place to stop really. Right. Should be up here somewhere. Here we are. Look. I reckon this could be it. Yes. There we go. You have reached your destination. Oh, there’s a queue. It looks like it’s quite popular. Let’s see if we can pull in behind um Mr. German. All got the doors open. It’s all a bit hot. And this is the campsite that we’re staying at at the moment on our head north. It is a municipal campsite and it is in the town of Montek and it’s camping de Montek and I must say this campsite is enormous and my goodness it covers acres and acres and acres. It’s a great little find if you are wanting a even just a quick stop over if you’re heading north or south um kind of just south just south of the door. So, it’s barriered car park, but um the barriers are up at the moment cuz it’s off season. This is reception a wheel just here. Uh no problems booking in at all. No issues. Very, very well kept. Um a lot of work goes into it cuz it’s huge. Like I said, it has a swimming pool. Just give you a quick look at the pool. Hang on a sec. So, this is the pool area. There are people at the pool, so I’m not going to kind of poke in too much. But, um, it’s a nice big pool. Great for having a bit of a dip, especially in this heat. It’s very, very hot. Not bad for a municipal campsite to have a pool that size. Fantastic. The campsite also has a bar, restaurant area. which is here. Um it’s very very popular I must say. It was very busy yesterday. Smell. They sell small snacks, um drinks, cold drinks, ice creams, that kind of thing. Yeah. And the gardens, as you can see, are absolutely huge. It’s a great little campsite. been a little bit of um a bit of a find this one. We will definitely stay here again if we are heading quickly north to south. Um and the other thing is it’s got a fantastic canal that runs just a couple of minutes away from the campsite. So you can also do a little bit of cycling while you’re here. It’s leafy, it’s green, there are lots of trees. We are currently in a heat wave at the moment and it’s getting to over 40° uh at the peak of the day. Um so coverage has been an absolute godsend. But you do have to pick your pitch wisely and watch which way the sun’s going because some of them are fully covered, some of them are se semi covered with shade. So um do a little bit of research before you pick a pitch. And they did allow us to pick a pitch. They allowed us to just ride on and pick a pitch at this time of year which was great. And this is the shower block. Just the one shower block. Perfectly functional. Washing up sinks. Hot and cold running water. It’s a shared block between male and female. So this way you have the sinks. Sinks. showers. They are adjustable temperature push buttons. [Music] do have toilet seats, but there is no toilet paper, so bring your own. [Music] Very basic, but very functional. And then round this side, you have paid washers and dryers and a big sink for washing your clothes. Perfect. And this is the little alleyway that we’re on. And as you can see, the pictures are in they’re huge. Absolutely enormous pictures. And we are just on this little pitch here on the left. Pitch number 39. Here we are under this lovely, magnificent tree, keeping the shade on us a little bit. Not fully, but heyi ho, we’ll take it on electric with a water point. And this is costing Oh, hello birdies. Very, very noisy. And this is costing us €1950 a night. And that’s including all local taxes. An absolute bargain. Great little stopover campsite. And you’ve got a lovely canal that you can cycle on if you want to. Oh, and there’s a inter marsh in a little about 5 minutes cycle ride away just for an extra, you know. Fabulous. So, it is another absolutely gloriously sunny day. They’re predicting like 40° I think today. So, we are out nice and nearly modul. We are going to check out the little canal that runs near this municipal campsite. And it’s just out this gate and to the left. So, we shall go that way. Let’s go. Let’s go have a look. Getting rid of the evidence. Ah, okay. Bernie’s getting rid of the evidence. That is lots of beer. Uh cuz we need to drink lots of beer cuz it’s hot. Right. So, it’s just down this road here. campsite to our left. And we are out really early because um like I said, it’s supposed to be another scorcher. It’s not already. Bernard’s cheating already. Far too early to be cheating. That is Yeah, I think so. Yeah, we can either left, you can go left or right. So, and that is us on the canal. Wait, it doesn’t take long, does it? That says what it is there. That’s it. Yeah. In Branch the Canal. Should we go left? All right, let’s go left. Something’s going on up up there. Oh, look. Pretty under the bridge. Oo. Are you done another white That’s enough. Yeah. Right. I think we might be on the right side now. We found it bird. Just need to kind of know where you’re going. Really? Oh, we get to go past the harbor way onto the toe path. That’s better. We found it. There’s no bikes when there no cars, no bikes, no skis. You just cycle straight past. Well, now we are on the cycle path, so we’re good. Pass the big boats. Lovely. I don’t know what that big thing is. Some kind of port thing. Don’t know. Centerville that way. Birded cycle path into town. Oh, look. This is pretty. Look at the trees. Lots of um information boards along the canal. Well, the lockouses aren’t as pretty as the ones in Britney. Look all the fish. I can see all the fish shopping in the water. It’s must be that time of day. First thing in the morning, they’re up in a boot. Lovely and quiet now. And it’s in the shade. Absolutely perfect. What a way to start a Monday morning. All you can hear is the birds. Morning chorus. So, we had a bit of a detour. We went down a route that went led down the canal but led to a dead end cuz we thought we were clever. Uh, but we weren’t clever and um so we are now back on the cycle route that kind of runs parallel to the uh canal for a little while and then it joins again at the bottom. It’s a bit sunny. That’s why we were trying to be a bit naughty and go on the bit that was eventually closed cuz it’s in the shade. But this does eventually bring you back onto the shaded bit. So, we’ll crack on. It’s all an adventure. You thought been out an hour already. Birded. We have been up about 70 hours. I know. We have had a couple of detours, haven’t we? I’m saying you can’t get off. Well, there we go. Case in point, you can get lost following a canal. Oh, a bit of shade, bird. Do you want to stop under that big bit of shade there? I want to You got it, baby. You got it. Oh, lovely shade. Stop. What? Oh, bum rest. Oh, that’s better. Under the trees. Under the very big trees. Lovely. Oh, lots of nice big boats along here. Bernard morowed up. Proper moorings. Reminds me of our old canal days on the narrow boat. They have got electric boys. It’s all a bit posh. Another mark. So, we have to swap sides to carry on. No, we can carry on on this side. There we go. Down. We we woohoo. Uh oh. The hat’s going to fly off. Woo. That were nice cuz I got a nice good bit of breeze which I very very need. La machine. La machine. Right, let’s go and have a look at this thing cuz I’ve no idea what it does. Let’s go see. I’ve got an idea. I think it pulls boats up the canal instead of them going through a lock. Let’s go see. Well, it’s very funky colored, that’s for sure. Great paint job. Look at that. Look at the size of the wheels. So, how this thing works is here is the slipway on the canal and these two huge things, these two huge motors pull the boat up the slipway. machine. Oh, look. You can see both of them from here. Little twins. It looks kind of Thomas the Tank Engineish. There they are. Look, that’s pretty cool. Love the paint job. It’s awesome. the machine and its barge. There you go. And I think they do do demonstrations of how it works, but it’s not today, Monday. No, but um through Tuesday through Saturday and on a Sunday. So, there you go. And come and experience how it works, I think. Cool. Well, you never know what you’re going to find when you go on a little cycle ride along the canal. That certainly wasn’t on my uh bucket list for today. But there you go. And they’ve made it a lovely little area to visit because they’ve made a picnic spot right next door with loads of trees, loads of shade, picnic benches. So you can come have a look at the machine, have your lunch sorted. And there’s Berno. Give us a wave, Berno. Right, we have really, really got to go now because it is scorching like baking. Let’s get back to the campsite. Let’s Let’s get back to the campsite. Ferno, it’s hot. Right. So, that’s the little run along this little bit of canal now. Even though it is literally only like just gone 10:00 in the morning, it is getting hot, believe it or not. So, we are heading back to the campsite. We’re going to nip to the shop and get a baguette for lunch and head back to the campsite and get in the shade before it gets ridiculously too hot. And I’m going to head to the pool because uh the campsite has a pool. So, why not? Let’s go back to the campsite. [Applause] [Music]

Looks a lovely campsite. A bargain at €19.50 for the huge pitch including electricity and water.
