[Music] How did Nis’s prominade Dagla become world famous? Imagine strolling along a beautiful seaside walkway with the sparkling Mediterranean on one side and elegant buildings on the other. That’s what makes the Prominade Diagla so special. It all started in the early 1800s when wealthy English visitors wanted a lovely place to relax during winter. In 1821, after a tough winter that caused many locals to lose jobs, a group of rich English residents led by Reverend Lewis Wei raised money to build a seaside path. They wanted to give work to the unemployed and create a scenic spot for walking and enjoying the sea. The path was finished in 1820 for and was called Engles, which means English way in the local dialect. When nice officially became part of France in 1860, the name changed to the proomenade de Aagla, meaning the walkway of the English. As nice grew into a popular winter retreat for European aristocrats, the prominade gained fame. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, known as the Bellipo, wealthy visitors flocked to nice for its luxury hotels, casinos, and social events. The proomenade became a symbol of leisure and elegance lined with palm trees and beautiful architecture. Artists, writers and tourists loved the view of the can, the lively atmosphere. Over time, the prominade was expanded and improved to host events like the tour d France bicycle race and the nice Grand Prix car race. Its stunning location along the Bay of Angels combined with its history and beauty helped it become one of the most famous landmarks on the French Riviera. Today, visitors walk or cycle along its 7 kilometer stretch, enjoying panoramic views, historic buildings, and a lively vibe that captures the spirit of nice.
