On October 19, the mountains of Andorra hosted a unique 24-hour showdown between four of cycling’s biggest names: Tadej Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard, Primož Roglič, and the rising prodigy Isaac del Toro.
This event stripped away the usual team tactics, pitting the riders against one another in two contrasting disciplines: a grueling 8 km mountain climb time trial that tested their raw power on the steep Pyrenean slopes, and a fast-paced 15 km urban circuit race where they navigated technical city streets amidst a throng of fans.
More than just a race, the day offered an intimate look at the dynamic between the sport’s established “Big Three” and its newest challenger. Transitioning from the silent agony of the high-altitude climb to the electric atmosphere of the city center, the event captured the essence of modern cycling – showcasing not only the intense physical rivalry required to be the best in the world but also the camaraderie shared by these elite athletes off the bike.

This weekend, [Applause] our big four is fronted by Tad Pogach, winner of five grand tours and two world championships. A real prodigy, Tad Pogach, considered by many the greatest rider of all time. And there he goes for the sprint. It’s Yonas Vingor. Yonas Vinigor, his most fierce rival. Winner of two tours and one will desperore as well. 12ks to the finish line. And what a show they’re putting on already. The Slovenian Primo Rogich, a four-time Laba winner and one time Jodalia champion. A legend eager to prove himself against the next generation. And last but not least, Isak Del Toro, the most promising young rider on the circuit. It’s the big day then. It’s time to go. Mountain time trial time and a man looking to win his first ever professional time trial isak del Toro 21 years of age. Fans here are pleased to see him. They bang on the boards as he gets ready to go. [Music] Off he goes then delo the first to take on the mighty ka lagena. 8.2ks 2ks maximum gradient of 18%. This is a beast of a climb. Already on his way up there, swinging the bike from side to side. Next to go is Primo Rogich, former Olympic time trial champion. And it was on a mountain time trial. He won the jidali a few years ago, but it’s also where he had his worst ever moment, losing the tour to France to Dan. He’s back. He’s on the bike and he’s on his way. Plenty of encouragement for a Slovenian superstar. Back to the start house. It’s Yonas Vingor time. He’s beaten Torach in this discipline before the tour to France. Let’s see what he has here. Hasn’t raced for a little while now. He’s been on the bike and training though. It’s Vingor against the mountain against three of the best in the world. Vingor on a beautiful morning in Andor. Maybe just starting to show though that there’s that lack of recent competition. Thank you. And here’s the main man they’ve all come to see. The world champion on the road, the best perhaps of all time. Tade Pogach is underway. He rolls down the ramp. And here in Andor, all four masters at the Andor cycling masters are on their way. And head-to-head few hundred meters. It’s del Toro with a push. The views are stunning at the top of the Ko de Lagena. Del Toro still going for it. You can see the fans on the side of the road have made their way up early doors as well. It’s ticking beyond 28 minutes. Deloro’s here. He’s going to be the first to finish and it’s 2805 for the Mexican and Rogich is rolling back the years here. The effort face still on, but that smiles there too. They’re ready to welcome him. A reminder just over 27 minutes the record here. Del Toro with 2805. Rogich though is going to take some time and quite some time. Look at this time. Primo Rogich smashing the record. It’s 2539 and we have a new fastest time. [Music] Here comes Vingor then. This is going to be the worst of the three times that we’ve seen so far. It’s going to tick over. 29 minutes. Vingor has given his all. But look at this. Across the line he comes and the Dane is 3 minutes 45 seconds down on Primos. But the seconds continue to tick away. The finish line coming into sight. It’s going to be close but it is not going to be close enough. And Primo Rogic by around 20 seconds is going to lead. Rogich in the lead after the mountain time draw. Countdown time. Good luck. [Music] [Applause] I lost all the watch on the mountain. Now he’s even worse. Here’s Rogich. Let’s see if the morning’s efforts have had an effect on his legs. [Music] Here’s Del Toro then, young Mexican star with the first real move of this race. [Applause] And there’s the Slovenian star off the front. And look at how Rogich goes away into this corner already. Steals a march. Steals a march. Rogich. One lap to go to the sprint. Robich still has that advantage. Remember 10 points available there. 8 six and four respectively as well. Coming up to that bonus sprint now. It’s Roglitch who’s still out there in front. Delo behind. Chance for a crazy bunch sprint here in Andor. And it’s Roglitch who takes the 10 points for the first to cross the line. Oh, but they’ve managed to bring him back. And it’s back to the drawing board for today. [Applause] Coming up to the penultimate passage through the finish line. The bell is ringing and it’s Vingor and Pogacha now who are putting the pressure on Roglitch and Del Toro. One lap to go. That’s what we were thinking when we got here this morning. There’s Del Toro. Rock Lynch is with him and they’ve got the two in their sights. They swing around the corner for the final time. The distance is hardly anything now. A look behind from Pachanad. It is four up. They’re all going to come to the line again. It’s Andor. It’s City Center and it’s ready for the final fight to see who’s the master of all the masters. Paul on the right side, the rainbow jersey. Rock coming around if he can. Death corner is there as well. Nigs at the back. It’s Rock at the front. Death desperately trying to get around him though. The line is approaching here. It’s Robich. It’s Del Toro. It’s Robich. The Mexicans there. Push for the line. It’s a photo finish. And we think just about for Del Toro. [Music] Good job. [Music] [Applause]
