In Norway, you don’t even have to pedal to get uphill. In the city of Tronheim, a clever invention called the Cylo cable makes riding on steep roads a breeze. First installed in 1993, it was the world’s first bike lift built to help riders climb a 130 m hill with ease. Cyclists just put one foot on a small foot plate, and the lift gently pushes them uphill at a steady, comfortable pace. No pedaling needed. Now upgraded, the Cylo cable is not only a practical way to get around, but also a popular attraction for cyclists from all over. It can carry up to 300 riders an hour, is safe for kids, and offers a fun, eco-friendly alternative for hilly cities.
