Motorcycle Ride to Komani Lake: Albania’s Beautiful Roads

On my trip around Albania, I recorded some beautiful locations that I want to share with you. In this video, I’ll show you Komani Lake and the scenic roads around it. It’s an amazing region — and it’s very close to Montenegro.

You wake up, go to a balcony and there is a 
beauty which you see in the morning. But we don’t have much time. We need to go because 
we are going to the one of the most beautiful lakes you can find around Albania. And 
you have to be there before 9:00 a.m. Mornings are the best cuz you wake up 
and you’re silent, nobody around. I’m heading to Komani Lake this morning cuz 
it’s going to take me hour and a half to get there. So that’s why I’m waking 
up early. Now it’s around 6:00 a.m. and uh hour and a half to get there and then 3 
and 1/2 hours of ferry. Look at this guys. cuz we have some neighbors and us. And what 
time is now? Now is 6:31. Shall be in time. So Tracer Explore Pack with robust side painters, 
engine guards. Okay, our navigation is here. So, first off will be for a gas station cuz after 
yesterday I need to fuel up a little bit. Okay. Empty town in the morning. Beautiful. You know, mornings are the 
best. You wake up, you have the whole town for yourself and that is amazing. But I 
need to fuel up cuz it’s going to be a long way and I’m not sure that on my way back 
I’ll be able to find other fuel stations. So many cyclists in Albania. I didn’t expect 
that people are riding bicycles everywhere. And architecture, man, so different. You 
go to the city center is so European, but then you go on the outskirts of um of 
the city and that is completely different. It’s okay. I’ll do that. 
Can you pay by card? Okay. The guys are pretty much relaxed in the morning. 
You know this sound when the payment goes through sounds like you win the lottery. Okay, thank you. 
Oh, the guys are so polite. I remember many years ago I was going through Albania in the night. I 
was scared. These days I’m much more relaxed. So, I remember back in the day when I did not have 
much experience with with Albania, I thought, “Oh man, this country is scary to go to.” And 
one day I decided to travel all the way down to Greece. I traveled during the day, was okay, 
but then my plans changed and I needed to be back earlier than I planned. So I needed to 
travel over the night via Albania and I’ve been stopped by police like two or three times 
over the night and first time you being stopped you’re like what’s going on? So yeah and I was 
like wow man why I’m being stopped by police? They did not do anything to me. Everything was 
super fine. But then you can imagine like in the middle of the night they were with torches 
and they like what are you doing? Where are you traveling? Why are you crossing Albania so 
quickly? Why you don’t stay overnight somewhere in the hotel? So many question but overall 
everything was fine and over the past couple of years tourism in Albania is skyrocketing. So 
they have more flights from all over the world. They’re developing infrastructure, building roads, 
making the most remote parts of Albania more accessible because without, you know, tourism, 
they won’t be able to boost their economy. And if they not able to boost the economy, they they 
cannot, you know, do any sort of development. This road is one of the at least it it is kind 
of described or presented as one of the most uh scenic roads around the Albania. Of course, it’s 
not the only one. I’m going to do the whole loop. So, we go there by the ferry. So we start from 
common, we sail all the way up and from there I’m going to take SH5 and SH22 roads to come back. So 
it’s like the whole day trip. Yeah. But this part of the road is going to be like this. But there 
is a purpose why I have racer Explore — a more robust, more mechanical version of tracers we 
have in our fleet. When you go for an exploration, you can be a little bit easy on yourself 
when the road is not so good. Look at this guys. Bridge in the middle of 
nowhere. Probably it was a river. Yeah, it it feels like it is a 
river bed. Okay. Hello, lady. You can just park in the middle 
of the road. Nobody cares. So what many people do they uh take the ferry and 
then they go to Valbona Valley they do big hike over the mountains and uh come down to Theth 
and from Theth they go back mountains in this region just stunning and we’re so lucky that uh 
these mountains are by the border with Montenegro So it actually doesn’t take much time for 
us to to come and visit. You don’t really need to travel far whether for those who 
flying into uh Tana they will need to take some time to to arrive here. The only thing 
which I hope and I think and I believe that uh Albanian government will do that is to pave the 
roads because this is such a popular destination and I hope that eventually the roads will be good 
enough so everyone can travel here on any type of vehicle. They do some preparations for that cuz 
uh beautiful This mountains range is amazing. One day you guys will come here. You will ride it yourself. But before you 
get here, I am your eyes. So, I’m happy to show you what it’s like to be here. Beautiful mountain pass. Beautiful. Okay, we are loading onto the ferry. So, let me find the ticket. I have ticket online. Okay. 
2 port tax not including port tax to n. Can I pay by card? Yes. Yeah. By card. €200. 
Can I pay by card? Okay. No card. Okay. So, the guy approached me and 
he says, “You need to pay €2 for as a port fee. You see it 
says port fees not included. I found €2. Which ferry do you have? Uh, sorry. Okay. Come slowly, slowly to Marisha. Mhm. Follow 
me. Okay. These guys are loading big trucks. It all looks good actually, guys. 
You have some restaurant market. Hi. Your name, Sergey. Yes. Yeah. Do you need my ticket? You see 
the other motorcycle over there? You should turn around and the 
guys will help you to park. Okay. Okay. Oh, that’s slippery. That’s slippery. 
Okay, we need to turn around because the ferry will leave this way. Okay, so I need to park it next. next to the bike. They promised me they going they 
going to tight it. People are traveling, people off roading. We came from this tunnel. I don’t 
really need breakfast cuz I’ve got my breakfast from the hotel. If you stay in the hotel, they 
can actually offer you some food to take to go. Um, so interesting those guys on a bikes. 
They go in different uh ferry. I saw them on the way here. Mostly tigers. Yeah. Awesome. 
Look at this view, guys. It’s so beautiful. I want to go where no one’s ever been. I will 
climb the highest mountain. I would type the deepest se just so I could make you feel what I 
feel and for the sky. Yeah, I really thought we’d make it. Got my head in the clouds. But I can 
see the world from up here. From up here. From up here. The world from up here. From up here. 
From up here. You see the world from up here. Go ahead, call me crazy. I always see 
the good in everyone. Blue and night. We arrived to final stop. As you can see, they floating in the ferry. 
First people leave and then they going to let the cars go. Yeah. So for now we are waiting. So 3 hours. Yeah. 
Almost 3 hours on the ferry. And uh now we are out for a ride. Look at this. That’s supposed to be school, but you have guardrails everywhere. Skola. Yeah, it’s a skola. Okay. Which means 
school, I assume. Look at this, man. They brought them all the way down from Germany. 
You see Ferrari bands, Beetle, bands, bands, bands, rolls, all from Germany. That’s nice. 
Is it someone’s collection? I don’t know. Awesome. Interesting. In the middle of nowhere, in a town 
where you literally don’t see any development, you have all these cars. Crazy. So we are 
heading back to the coast but uh this time by the road which is uh which is paved 
and to be honest condition is not Heat. Heat. So the road goes all the way up there. If you guys seen some similar road somewhere 
in the in in the world, let me know. I am just curious because on the top of my mind it feels 
to me like I saw some similar road somewhere but cannot recall where you know I don’t understand 
don’t remember the region. So we’re going down and then we’re going to go up. You see the road is 
there literally there. This is breathtaking mate. Oh my gosh. Can you imagine back in the day when 
this road was built? The cars and the motorcycles, they had zero electronics, they 
did not even have good brakes. Why would you build such roads? And how 
you would drive them, you know, it’s crazy. I honestly I cannot imagine how people were driving these roads back in the 
day. But man, you see this when it’s fantastic, mate. That is just stunning. You 
see guys, that was the road. I don’t know if you can see it 
on the other side of the canyon. You see? And now we are climbing up 
again. Looks like it was slight here. Okay. Don’t go that fast, guys. He 
did not expect to see anyone here. That is unbelievable. Camera would 
never show you the real picture. Never. But the way how you see it, the way how your 
brain process it, it’s just so beautiful. It is so beautiful. The road feels like it’s completely 
forbidden, you know, guys. So, we are on um SH5, which is a little bit more speedy road, but still 
absolutely empty, no people, no one. And sometimes you you see the patches on the road, sometimes 
you see gravel, sand. You still need to watch out. Look at these rocks. Why is it reflecting that 
much? Oh, interesting. Look, they’re reflecting on the 
sun. Huh, that’s interesting. it [ __ ] tonight. This serpentine is amazing. Empty. No cars, 
no sand, no gravel, nothing. No potholes. It’s been well looked after. It 
feels like it was fire here as well. You can see the trees are not uh entirely 
green. Yeah. But this summer being hot, it was really hot. And look 
to the right. Yeah. Beautiful. So that’s the end. After a long day of Friday, I came back to town and went for a walk and 
some dinner. It felt great to step into the busy streets after spending the whole day on
