I have this lovely old Gazelle by brother picked up in the Netherlands and shipped over to the States. I’m pretty sure it’s from the 60s, but I can’t find an index of serial number manufacturing dates. The rear hub is a 3-speed drum brake Sturmey-Archer AB 79 (which I understand to mean manufactured in 1979).
The rear hub has crapped out – it slips sometimes, and sometimes doesn’t spin freely. Does anyone know if I could swap it out for a new Sturmey-Archer X-RD3 or RX-RD3? I don’t know if the rod brakes are compatible with new hubs.
