#10 Oman – mit dem Fahrrad durch die Wüste

Oh man OMAN!
Mit dem Rad durch den Oman. Ein Land, das zum größten Teil aus Wüste besteht, wirkt im ersten Moment nicht gerade geeignet für Radreisen. Zwei Monate sind wir mit unseren Rädern im Jänner und Februar 2019 durch den Oman geradelt und haben uns jeden Tag mehr in dieses Land verliebt!
Die Route unserer Fahrradreise: Muskat – Sur – Masira Island – Duqm – Ash Shuwaymiyyah – Salalah

Hallo! Wir sind Angi & Reini und fahren mit unseren Rädern von unserer Heimatstadt Salzburg/Österreich nach Neuseeland! Gestartet sind wir am 15. Juli 2018 und sind mittlerweile 9 Monate auf Fahrradreise.

First day cycling in Oman and we already see camels!! Unbelievable! We were searching for water and asked some police men where we can get water. They said “we will buy you some” and I told them “don´t worry, we will continue and find water later” 1km later we found this water dispenser and now they just came back to bring us juice and ice cold water from the shops. so kind of them! wow! Is it time? Yesss!! We reached 6000 kilometers!! We are now 6 months on the road and cycled 6000 kilometers. A lot happened in this 6 months! But the nice thing is that we still have 22000km to go! A lot can happen in this time! Strong headwind. 11 km/h, flat, but headwind. So far we cycled about 600 km in Oman And yesterday we took the old boat to Masira Island Here we will meet two other cyclist, who work there in a kite school We will enjoy some rest days there and relax We are in the middle of nowhere there is really nothing but what’s here for sure are one million flies. brutal. We are in the middle of the desert, after passing the last little village. there were a few little shops the next 165km there will be nothing Thats why we bought loads of food and water food for a whole week! we don’t have too much water though Usually we get water from people who stop and ask if we need water or we stop a car to ask for water In the next 15 days we want to cycle to Salalah that would be 56km per day And Salalah is on the other end of Oman! Once we arrive there, we cycled around 1500km along the coast and crossed the whole country! Now its the second time that in over 100km there won’t be any village After Duqm will be another 180 km without any supplies. Now we are on the nice road here is nothing, but also no shoulder on the road anymore. and too many trucks which is not nice for cycling at all moreover today we have a strong headwind instead of the expected tailwind! 10km/h in the flats. It even goes a bit downhill! Today we are having a rest day, but the wind would be a perfect tailwind! After having headwind for the last 200km…! Bad decision! But sometimes you gotta be unlucky! *Reini asks how many camels he would get for Angi 😛 Wind again. But today it’s tailwind!!! So nice!! We just met a guy on the road, to whom we talked yesterday already. Now we are in As….something I asked him where we can find WiFi in this area But he invited us to his family and now we are here in this massive room As you can see we could shower, our third one in Oman And first we got coffee and tea And for lunch fresh fish and his mum put me in a omani outfit so I can show it to the people at home on top he offered us to sleep in an empty flat and on top again he will show us this beautiful Wadi here, which we couldn’t see without a 4 wheel drive! again such an unbelievable nice experience, which we appreciate a lot and now we will enjoy this delicious fish! We had a nice climb and are now on a plateau We still have another 250 meters climb ahead of us , but not steep at all it is so beautiful here, we will find a really nice camp spot tonight for sure! there is nothing more to ask for! Wuuuuuuuhhhh!!!!! How many days you have by bicycle? 6 months! 6 months? From Austria? To here? Mashalaaa!! After a rest day the legs still hurt but Reini says the days when it hurts the most are the most important days to let your muscles grow! We are in … Salalah! ahhh…finally those were exhausting days and tensions between us were growing a bit that’s why it will be important to have a little break now Muscat to Salalah, 1500 km, DONE!
