Radreise an der franz. und ital. Riviera Teil 1 von Avignon nach Montpellier

Im Herbst 2025 machten wir uns auf den Weg, die französische und italienische Riviera mit unseren Rädern zu erkunden. Am Meer waren wir mit unseren Satteltaschen 3 Wochen von Montpellier bis Florenz unterwegs.
In diesem ersten Teil zeigen wir euch die Anreise unter anderem über Avignon, Arles und Nimes.

The Bunnies on the Move! Cycling Trip on the Riviera in Autumn 2025 Hello fellow cycling enthusiasts! The Bunnies are back on the road! This time our motto is: French and Italian Riviera – uncharted territory for us! We’re currently in Avignon, and as you can probably see, the famous Avignon Bridge is in the background . Tomorrow we’ll finally hit the road on our bikes towards Montpellier, and from there along the Mediterranean coast via Genoa to our destination in Florence. 3.5 weeks of pure new territory ! We’re so excited! Enough talk, our channel lets the pictures do the talking! But of course, the crucial question remains: What are we most looking forward to? My dream destination is the Cinque Terre , and the rest will bring plenty of surprises! And I’m especially excited about the Camargue! It has a magical name for me . But the trip will surely be one highlight after another. We’d love for you to join us! That would be great! Cheers! We arrived in Lyon by Flixbus, where we had a short layover before continuing by train towards Avignon. A few brief impressions from both cities. In the former papal city of Avignon, we encountered numerous cultural events, the extraordinary bridge , and of course, the Papal Palace and the cathedral with its famous bells! This is what the cycle paths in and around Avignon look like! No complaints there! With a final glance at Avignon’s city walls, our cycling trip finally began. The city was still quite busy, but the bus and cycle lanes were perfectly safe. Then we headed towards the mouth of the Durance River where it flows into the Rhône , and into beautiful countryside! We’re now on our way from Avignon to Montpellier, heading towards the sea! Over the next two days, we’ll be in Arles and Nîmes , where we’re sure to encounter many Roman remains. That will certainly be interesting and exciting! Why didn’t we start directly in Montpellier? The three historic cities before that were simply too tempting, especially since we were already in the area. Leaving Arles, we retraced our steps from the outset, but instead of a spectacular railway cycle path, we first cycled through agricultural fields. A rice paddy! However, the following day’s stage to Montpellier was an absolute dream: a cycle path through wild and romantic scenery. From one Roman city to the next, from Arles to Nîmes, through completely flat, deserted farmland . Every bush here is covered in snails! Shortly after leaving Nîmes, on our way to Montpellier and the sea, we encountered this meditative cycle path, which absolutely captivated us.
