Here is my cross-country/touring hardtail mountain bike (parts list below below). I built it specifically for Newfoundland's T'Railway in Eastern Canada.
It's the first bike I've ever built from the ground up. I was EXTREMELY fortunate to have some experts from Reynolds & Manitou help with consulting/design and then troubleshooting during assembly.
Mixing road shifters with MTB calipers required a specific hydraulic hose kit with a threaded inline crimp fitting, and of course then bleeding the entire system. Another snag I encountered was the P-29er frame did not fit my original tire choice. The P-29er should accept 2.3 inch tires, but Nobby Nic 2.25 inch rubbed the frame, so I switched to the 2.1 inch Vittorias shown in the pics.
Overall, a very fun project. I didn't have enough knowledge to do this before I started. But I learned a lot (through many errors of course), certainly enough to fix issues that arise with this particular bike while touring and to maintain afterwards also.
