Sometimes when you travel, you find a place that truly feels like a fairy tale has come to life. For us, that place was Rothenburg ob der Tauber, often called the most beautiful town in Germany. And honestly, walking here, it really feels true. It’s not just picture perfect. Rothenburg is also full of history, which makes exploring it even more special. We stayed at a campsite nearby and we planned to cycle to the town. Tell me you’re in Germany without telling me you’re in Germany. What’s happening to your breath? Yeah, I don’t know. It’s gone. We are never used to any type of hills. We’re from the Netherlands and we don’t have electric bikes. We just have these normal city bikes. So hopefully we survive. How are we almost there? Yes, we arrived sweaty, but the view is made up for it right away. We just crossed the walls around this city and it’s already really cool. As you can see, there’s all these medieval structures and now we’re going to have some breakfast somewhere because you can imagine after a crazy bike ride like that, so you’re hungry. Well, we’re going there. We’re going to have the worst glimpses of this beautiful town. Rothenburg is about 900 years old. It started in the 12th century and became a big medieval town. And what’s amazing is how much of it still looks the same. Even after some parts were damaged in the World War II, the town was rebuilt carefully to keep its medieval charm. And a tip, if you don’t like crowds like us, go early in the morning. You have those magical streets almost all by yourself. We have been to many beautiful cute towns around Italy, Switzerland and Nameth, but this one is just, it’s not just one street. It just goes on and goes on with these beautiful, beautiful streets. One of the most famous spots here is the Pluneline. It’s this cute little yellow house standing between two towers. Walking there feels like you stepped into a fairy tale. No wonder Disney used it as an inspiration for Pinocchio’s village. We are with the camper, so we’re staying on a campsite a little bit out of town. But if you’re coming here, like not with a car or a camper, this is one of the hostels you can stay in. And also in the old town we saw a lot of really cute boutique hotels. Aren’t they quite expensive? How much are we paying for our camping? I think 25. But the camping is, I think, eight or ten kilometers away from the city center, which is pretty like it’s a really cool camping. And from the camping to here, the way is just insanely beautiful. My first plan was to go on a bicycle tour around the city, because the whole area is really pretty. But yeah, it turned out to be 32 degrees these days. And that’s just warm. It’s really, really warm. And there’s not much shade because there’s not lots of trees outside. So now we might go with the local train to some other beautiful village, I think. Yeah, probably we would. Because it’s just 10 o’clock now and we have all day to explore. So I have to take back my words that there are no trees. Next up, the city wall. Rothenburg is one of the few places in Germany where the medieval walls is still almost completely intact. It goes for about four kilometers with around 40 towers and gates. You’re on a super adventurous mission. If you’re funny in the videos, you can never tell how hot it is. It’s hot. Let’s go. My heart rate is already 150 and it didn’t do nothing. Back in the middle ages, this wall was super important. It kept enemies out and made sure only right people came in. Rothenburg was a rich trading town. So protecting it was a big deal. It’s actually nice to go on this wall because then you have a different perspective of the city. And a lot of the buildings there are really well maintained. The colors are of course super beautiful. We are taking some inspiration for our house. We have to paint, Mira has to paint some doors and some windows. So maybe we take some inspiration from this village. There was a bit doubting if we should do this because it was just so warm and it was really like that. But it is actually really nice here. You’re walking in the shade and every time this wall’s wind is coming. And that reminds Adi of this old village house in India. It was a birthday. There was also thick walls with wind. There is. There is. Oh and the house is still there. So funny how these buildings were built hundreds and hundreds of years ago and they have the perfect ventilation. And now when we build the houses all the rooms are so warm that then we have to install an aircon and then pay hundreds of euros for the electricity. I don’t think she’s too tall. I keep putting my neck like this. It’s just it comes to my face. So this is how I feel. Every year we have our holidays around Italy or near in Italy and we always pass through Germany and every time wherever we would stay in the town we would think oh it’s so pretty, so quiet, so cute. We should really explore Germany and here we are. And it has exceeded all our expectations. So it is actually becoming lower and the next one I think is even more low. See there’s also a lot of damage because a lot of people did it. So if you’re 180 it’s fine. You barely make it. If you’re above 180. So the solution of a really warm day goes with the train. So this was really not a plan. But what I said before it’s just too warm to go cycling and whatever we we were planning to do. So we’re going to take the train to Botvin design. I think if I look at the photos it’s just as cute as this town. And yeah it takes 15 minutes or five zero. We also made a quick stop in Botvin design. A calm little spa town. Fun fact it’s more than 1200 years old. There is one thing I really regret because here in Botvin design they have this really big sauna swimming pool. You know this thermal complex. And yeah that would have been so cool now right. To go there and have a nice swim in the salt water swimming pool. And I don’t know if it’s all warm there but no it must be also for outside. But we don’t have our swimming bathing suits with us. So we go to the Mstoryse Alstatz. So in this deserted square we found a really beautiful and a colorful church. It’s so different than the other churches right. So in these areas they were just way more happy and I thought let’s put colors on everything we built. And yeah they went to the nettles. I thought let’s make everything great. We have seen none of the buildings like gray or dark blue or black. So pretty. So pretty. It is really pretty. It’s just really quiet. I think everyone is just in the hotel like hopping the seas or so. But we don’t have any option because if we go to our campsite our camper would be 40 I think 45 degrees inside the camper. So I think this is better way to spend. Since it was a hot afternoon the streets were empty. Everybody disappeared except for us at the gelato shop. How temperature can make a difference when we were going to bot Wintersheim with the train and the train was really cool. So we had so many ideas. We go explore and then we stepped out of the train and it was so warm. And we just we did one round and then we returned back to old Bertholdt et al. We’re here now and guess what? It’s not that warm anymore. So now we feel like so much energy. Go more explore and we go visit all the corners of the city again. Usually if it’s a cloudy day then I become a bit sad that all the videos and photos wouldn’t be that bright and colorful. But now I’m actually glad that it has become cloudy. Back in Rothenburg we reached the market square, the heart of the town. For centuries this was where people came for markets, festivals and big events. Today it’s still lively. People sit in cafes, sip coffee, join guided tours or just enjoy the wild. Being one of the most beautiful towns in the world of tours we are not the only ones who discovered this beautiful place. There are other tourists and as you can see now near the square they kind of gather and it was like a lot. But I think it was not that bad today. It did become more now. It’s a bit full down and later in the day. But this morning was really fine and I think when you do wake up really early and you stay in the town you can make all the nice photos all by yourself. We have been to some of the crazy touristy places in Italy and it’s not fun. But the amount of tourists what we have now is just good enough because afternoon just looked crazy deserted and it was yeah just really sad where we were. So yeah now I think we’re gonna be searching for dinner and what do we have for dinner Mira? Something typical German. On our dinner hunt we suddenly found something else. And let me tell you Mira went absolutely crazy. I think I found something that which made all my dreams come true. I was thinking all the time wow imagine in this cute town there is a Christmas market going on. We got a house just like the whole year we were living there. We didn’t celebrate Christmas during our new house. And there is this perfect place for Christmas tree. We never had a Christmas tree before. I want to get a Christmas tree this year. Mira saw the price and instantly changed her mind. We found the quietest corner to have our dinner and we didn’t go for schnitzel. We went for some really nice cheeseburger. It’s a local rotten burger. The fries are… we should listen to this sound. So there’s also fried onions and burger. Super crispy. After that we cycle back to our campsite enjoying the magical views around Rothenburg one last time. We hope you enjoyed this video and we’ll see you in the next one.

Wow, Rothenburg looks like a scene straight out of a storybook! 🏰 I need to add this to my travel list ASAP!
You brought up great memories of my trip there in 2024. Too bad you didn't stay there in the evening for the Nightwatch man tour, he was awesome . He usually does his tour in the evening at the square that both of you were in the video.
I visited Nordlingen also
Please visit Nordlingen and Dinkelsbuhl to complete the list.
