This modification instantly adds a new level of fun to my Canyon Stitched Dirt Jump bike and makes it into a hybrid trial/jump machine, perfect for Urban MTB freeride sessions!

I explore the streets of Lisbon, Portugal for the ultimate urban freeride and BMX style street spots, to give this new set up a proper test on. With a front brake fitted and lower gearing the jump bike becomes the most fun bike ever and opens up the capabilities of this mountain bike! Would you run this set up on your bike?

I’ve come to Portugal to test out my new setup on the jump bike. [Music] I’ve changed the gearing lower so it’s going to be easier for trialsy moves. I put the wings titanium cranks on there to be lighter. We’ve got a front brake on and you can still do bar spins and tail whips. Halo gave me a new front wheel. It’s the Halo Chaos, but we’re running obviously a disc on the front now, so I’ve got a different hub on there. Looking super sick. Lisbon is going to have a lot of stuff to offer. So, we’re just going to get out there and explore. Let’s get to the first spot. First spot we’ve come to is this huge red ring. It’s going to be hard to get speed for, but I think if you jump in, you can do fly outs to the side here. Let’s start with like a 270. Why it’s so hard for speed on the grass. I’ve got to come across the road. [Music] Oh, that’s sick. That feels amazing. I’d love a feature like that with a landing. That would actually be cool in like a slope course. Quite heavy impact of being completely flat. But a good start. Let’s see what else we can find. Look at this bit of street furniture. It’s been made to ride clearly. I’m going to come this way. Hop on Manny bar into the bank. [Music] We’re at this pretty crazy building here. And there’s some cool line. I’m going to go up to Manny, down Manny, up Manny, and then drop into this steep edge here. We’ll get the hover air chasing as well for a bit of the action. Let’s give it a go. Okay, here we go. Wow. Sick. That was a cool line. Quick stop at this cool DIY park. There’s a few features along there. It’s perfect for skateboarding. We mostly came cuz this cool graffiti work, but there’s a little quarter there. Let’s try a nose press. That’s why the front brake’s fun. You can stool on the front wheel presumably. Like Oh, that feels good. Yeah, it’s all worth it for the front brake now. Just for that. That’s a sick one. Let’s try and wall ride that noisy metal bit. That’s quite fun with the jump over. Let’s go trials. Hop over. wall. Get on the skinny and I have to ride more than one meter. Yes. A beef and a meter. So, trials go all the way. Yo, let’s find another spot. We were just driving, looking for spots. Come across this huge doomer. Look at the skies. It’s so nice. Got the hover air. It follows particularly well downstairs. So, we’re going to blast a lap of this one. It’s pretty long on the jumpy, but got a front brake, so we can go flat out. Let’s give it a go. Here we go then. dropping. Oh, I can’t even see. Oh, I’m so dizzy. Wow, I couldn’t even see. Oh my god. Oh yes. land. Oh, that’s so bumpy of the hard tail. Thought I was going to die. Just driving along, we seen this perfect natural flatbank for a couple of bangers. Let’s go lawns with it. Oh yeah, I grabbed the front brake. Thought I was going to go over the bars. Just a nose press would be sick. Using my new favorite thing, this front GB. Oh, going to try and foot jam whip with the front brake. Oh, yeah. Actually, it’s like a cheat code for foot jam whips. Oh, yes. And you were slipping. That was cool. Ooh, look at this. It’s like a skate park that’s not supposed to be ridden. There’s load of these weird bumps in this plaza. This one happens to be the best trickable one. Although when you ride up to it, you see all the lines in the floor. It makes you not really be able to see it. So weird. Let’s just get like tuck the hander for the first trickage. That’s good. I’m still scared riding it. Like actually scared. I want to whip it, but cranks are like a little bit loose. Whoa, that was a bit of a weak body one. I had to sit down. I just bit scared like the the sharpness if you get it wrong is just not that nice to think about. Let me three over it. Then we’ll go over there. I found a bit of a scary one. Uh, the gap’s not big, but it’s all just a bit sketch. If I pedal in from there, I think I can gap up onto this and then try and stop and then trials down to flat. Oh, that’s like if that was a curb that high. No questions. As soon as I’m like A bit high. I get scared. Look, straight off on this side. Easy. Okay. Well, the up works. Let’s do it. That was cool. Small drop, but when you get on the edge of it and have to just stop, it’s scary. Like anything over that height there gets kind of nerve-wracking cuz if you did drop the front, you just face plant. I like that. Quite cool with that gap on. Let’s see what else we can find. Thanks. That was another fun line with the Hover Air. We’re going to move on. Try and catch the last of this day. Like, come on. Look at this cool Manny line. [Music] Whoa, that’s sketch there. Cool. I didn’t pay attention to that bottom bit. Look at it. You couldn’t land into it. I’d have died. That was a sick one. It’s quite a exposed corner there, isn’t it? Just looked at the swatch the time. We got 15 minutes till sunset. We better work fast to get somewhere with the last remaining light. We found a spot with lights. The finale of the day. We came here last year, actually. It’s quite hard for my old eyes to see with this low lighting, but let’s do a few bits. So, re like straight in FO on there could be quite cool. You kindly can’t see me up here. There’s a bit of a drop. It’s sketchy. I’m scared of this edge. I’m just going to drop off it easily. Everything’s just that little bit more gnarly when you can’t see some reason. What else can we do? I kind of want to use the front brake a bit more. I didn’t really use the front brake that much today, did I? Like, let’s make a trial bike and then not do any trials. Uh, up and over that wall there, I reckon, but use the front brake. Yeah. Don’t just walk off when I’m still talking to you. Yeah. So, like, you know, Oh, I’m not going fast enough. Oh, kind of that, but not, you know. Oh, yeah. I want a 180. That would be cool. Oh, yeah. That feels nice if I can do it. The shoelace is stuck. Look, it’s annoying. Oh, that felt that was trily. That was the use of the front brake. Let’s pivot three out of it. We’re getting ridiculous, I think. But the front was sliding. Yeah. I mean, I’m riding out forwards again. It’s not the smoothest. I think I’ll take that. There we go. That concludes the session with this hybrid triump bike with the front brake and lower gear. I didn’t do too much trials. It’s also hard to find spots.
