It feels like winter has finally arrived here… although we could do with more snow in Squarebanks IMO. Time to bring forth the Moonlader. This year I’m going to rock a 50t rear sprocket and we’ll see how it goes. So far, so good at least… climbs slower than walking pace, but at least I don’t have to jump on and off the bike when it’s hilly.
Made some other mods vs. where I had started last winter:
-I’m running redline MT-LV manual transmission fluid in the gear box – just something lighter for the low temps. Unsure how much benefit I’m getting.
-extreme cold grease in the shifting system. I think Molykote but not sure (the stock stuff would freeze solid at about -20F, and shifting was extremely vague starting at about 0)
-avid BB7 brakes. Not really an upgrade but I was leaking brake fluid from somewhere and decided to side
step the issue.
-tubeless because the stock tubes would develop pinholes at cold. Maybe just too brittle in the low temps.
