Jonas Vingegaard broke clear on the final lap in rainy Saitama to win the 11th Tour de France J:COM Saitama Criterium, holding off a flying sprint from Jonathan Milan and Kaden Groves. A star-studded move with Vingegaard, Primož Roglič, Tim Wellens and Jonas Abrahamsen lit up the closing laps, before the two-time Tour winner went solo for the win. Milan topped the points and young rider standings, Valentin Paret-Peintre took the KOM, and Roglič earned most combative as Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe claimed the team prize.

How was the race and the the atmosphere in Saitama? Oh, it was a very hard race. It was uh very fast and the the atmosphere was incredible. There was a lot of people here, so it was very nice. It’s always great to see the passions of the Japanese crowd. Is it important for you to be to be here? Yes, for sure. I mean, uh there’s a lot of fans here and uh it’s nice to to be able to see how many people like cycling here. So, it’s a it’s really been a a nice experience for me to be here again. Do you have a a word for them? Yes. I just want to to tell them thanks. It’s been a a real pleasure for me and I really enjoyed being here and uh and doing this by grace. Thank you, Yennus.

  2. This is, perhaps, one of the goofiest "races" I've ever had the misfortune to watch on YouTube. And such a small turnout consiering the HUGE cost of staging this "event" in Japan… flying over (and paying) all of these pro riders. Do these people not know that these are just fake races??? Exibitions? Publicity stunts? I mean, the idea that Jonas would "win" a criterium type race like this in and of itself it ludicrous to begin with. The top AMATEUR crit racers in America could beat Jonas in a crit race like this. Also a pretty sparce turnout crowd-wise… which doesn't bode well for its future.
