RACE Across London… BIKE VS TRAIN 🚴🚊

#gcn #race #london #publictransport #bike #tube

How fast can I cross London by bike? And how much quicker than a train will I be? I’m going to win. Crossing the river. Lots of red lights. Slow me down. Magnificent day to go on a bike. Look at that. Time to see the [Applause] sights. This in some guy’s house now just around the corner. I’ve got this one. Well, check your side off.

  1. В ролике показаны лондонцы Дэн и Фин, которые участвуют в гонке от Кристалл-Палас до Кингс-Кросс. Дэн использует общественный транспорт, а Фин едет на велосипеде.

  2. No idea why you swapped at Liverpool Street but circle line is 25 min to Paddington from Tower Hill. This video is just lying. When I ride my bike it’s not because it’s quicker. Also, you should count the time it takes you to put on all your Lycra and shoes.

  3. I recently helped my sistster 'move flat' in london. Or rather helped her get all her stuff into a moving van.

It was then quick trip from old to new place.

The bike would have quicker, I did manage to get myself lost ~ its been a while since I've been in london. The real kicker for public transport is the wait times, and the problem of getting up/down to the underground platform.

Also when you are on the bike you can often take a 'more direct' route, especially compared to a bus or a car. Also I was taking my time, no point in me arriving before everyone else as I didn't have a key for her new place !

I think that if the journey is less than 30minutes there is definately a good argument for getting on a bike. The break point comes at about 45 minutes to 1 hour. This break point depends on the following :
~ you like being on the bike (you are a cyclist)
~ you can quickly find a Boris bike (or similar) ~ are the 'parking' places convenient to your yourney
~~ related to this it is reasonbly safe where you intend to lock up your bike ~ which negates the 'parking place' problem above
~ is it raining, or look like it is going to rain.
~ do you need to take stuff with you (ie if you are commuting how 'inconvenient' is it to carry your gear, or a you taking a picnic with you ~ I am not a fan of squished sandwiches, and that bottle of bubbly and the champagne glasses are heavy and delicate, it occurs to me I may be doing my picnics wrong, or maybe I'm doing them right 😕🤷)
~ if you are going further, how 'convenient' is it to take your bike on public transport.

  4. When I lived in Toronto there was nowhere in the city I couldn't get to faster by bike than by car or transit. It was a very good place to ride a bike, until they put bike lanes everywhere.
