How does Shannon Sohat span the river Share? Imagine standing on the banks of the river Share and looking up at a stunning castle that seems to float over the water. That’s exactly what makes Shenano so special. The castle was built directly over the river on a series of large stone arches that act like a bridge. These arches support a long gallery and several rooms that stretch from one side of the river to the other. The construction of this bridge started in the mid150 around the year 1555. Diane Duier, a favorite of King Henry II, was the first to design the structure. Later, Queen Catherine D. Medisi added her touch by building the gallery and a ballroom on top of the arches. The castle rests on sturdy peers that are embedded into the riverbed, which keeps it stable and secure above the water. This design makes it look like the castle is part of the natural landscape, blending history with nature. The bridge structure is quite large, stretching about 250 m long and supported by 10 stone arches. These arches are about 10 m high and 5 m wide, giving the castle a grand appearance. The cost of building Shenano at that temp was roughly 20,000 lever, a large sum back then. It took around 3 years to complete the main structure. The castle’s unique position over the river has also made it a popular spot for outdoor activities. People often kayak, row, or cycle along the riverbanks, enjoying the beautiful scenery.
