Hi! I recently purchased a secondhand Tern Link P7i with a Shimano Nexus 7 IGH. I noticed a slight drag on the hub while freewheeling so I opted to have it checked in a bike shop. Unfortunately, there are no authorized tern dealer/bike shops near me, so i had checked by a local bike mechanic. He said he was unfamiliar with the hub but he had experience with Japanese bikes before with a similar hub. I was hesitant at first but he said he’s confident and proceeded to check on the hub. He proceeded to disassemble the hub, used some gasoline as degreaser and wiped everything clean. Then, he put on some standard grease on the hub but I think it’s too viscous. He assembled the hub back again, however it is failing to shift. It was getting dark so he said he’ll study how to reassemble the hub. 2 days later, I got my bike back. The hub is shifting, however there is occasional slipping and noise. More importantly, the hub drag is too much now that while freewheeling, it takes around 2 secs to stop. I’m 100% regretting my decision and decided to take the matters in my own hands. I’m unfamiliar with bike maintenance especially for IGH so I’m relying on YT videos. Apparently I need an internal hub maintenance oil and dip tank but I can’t seem to find locally or on my local online store (Philippines). Is there some alternative oils for IGH? Thanks for the help!
